Our Trash the Dress Experience with Del Sol & Le Reve Hotel & Spa; One Year Later!

The best part of a destination (in my opinion) is you can make it anything you want. From beach chic to eclectic ancient Mayan ceremonies...it all works! Luckily, a trash the dress session is just as open when it comes to making it your own and expressing creativity! After planning my own destination wedding in 2010 in Riviera Maya, Mexico, I knew that I wanted to also do a Trash the Dress with Del Sol but I knew it wouldn't be right after the wedding. I wasn't sure exactly when we would make the trip back, but as our one year anniversary approached, it was fate that had us both on the same page. TTD time! We already had plans for another trip to celebrate our one year, but we scheduled our return visit to Playa del Carmen over my birthday and as a belated anniversary treat for the two of us! We also knew we wanted to stay at Le Reve Hotel & Spa for part of our trip. After the photos and reviews that I had read from other brides/honeymooners and the rave reviews from Matt and Sol...I was sold!

 

First change from the wedding to the trash the dress...experiencing a new hotel. It's no surprise I asked the concierge who took us to our room upon arrival, "Can you tell me what my move in date is? I'm not leaving."

We descended upon the beach at 5:45am (yes, 5:45am) because Del Sol planned a sunrise shoot for us on the gorgeous beach in front of Le Reve. It was absolutely the most incredible sky I've ever seen. Well worth the insane wake up time on a Mexican Caribbean vacation :) We spent time taking photos on the beach, up by the infinity pool and other areas around the hotel. We had so much fun! Both of us were completely comfortable and relaxed.

 

Second change from our wedding to the trash the dress: Wardrobe change! I opted to get a new gown for our TTD. My wedding dress was a one shoulder asymetrical silk gown. I purchased a strapless mermaid style dress for the TTD and it felt like we were having a whole new wedding experience. I also designed completely new jewelry for multiple accessory changes. Eric also changed up his ensemble from what he wore for the wedding :) Wedding Look (including the blonde hair): TTD Look (including the dark brown hair) Eric now jokes that it looks like we had two different weddings with different brides :)

After the beautiful shoot at Le Reve (more photos to come!) we headed to the cenote! I was so excited to have this experience after years of seeing the magical shoots done in the underwater caves. It was time to transform into a mermaid! We drove into the jungle and headed down to the cenote. It was so funny watching the reaction of people passing by, so excited to see a bride and groom headed into the jungle fully clothed! We started to shoot and it was incredible to see all of the technical aspects that go into a shoot like this. The light and timing are crucial and Del Sol knows how to master it all!

  It was an absolutely amazing day! We started early and it was completely worth it. Lighting in the morning was straight out of heaven and the cenote was as beautiful as I imagined. Roots hanging from the ceiling of the cave and the lush green jungle provided a gorgeous background that I'm so excited to see in the photos. We were thrilled to be able to spend the day with the Del Sol team and can't wait to blow up these babies just like we did to many of our wedding photos! I can't wait to see the reactions on guests faces with these covering our walls!   Thanks again Del Sol & Le Reve for another unforgettable day! Very excited to see the rest!

Thanks Abbie! TTD's are definitely an incredible and thank you for moving it to the correct forum...I wasn't sure where the best spot would be! Also, please let me know where you move it to if you can! :)

Got it and in LOVE! I didn't think it was possible to fall in love three times:

  • with Eric
  • with our wedding photos
  • with our TTD photos

 

I can't wait to share these with everyone!! Thank you again!

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
