Same here! We both opened a joint account and have our direct deposited into it biweekly.

Well I am senior in college so I just save up as much as I can from my part time job. Hopefully by May or June I have a full time job and can contribute as much as I can to the cause... but for now, I have a jar laying around the house just getting filled up with all denominations of coins (except pennies because I have a different purpose for those.) I also made it a point to not redeem my credit card points for cash because I would probably spend it. So I have like an extra $200 or so just in points sitting on my credit cards. And my fiance works a lot of overtime so I feel that being patient and understanding of his work schedule is a contribution! lol

I too am in university still, and work part time. I have been putting in $100 per cheque into a savings account and I had some in savings before. Also, any extra money I get (GST cheques, tax refund this yr) will go into it as well. I'm sone school at the end of Sept and will hopefully find a full time position right away, so that will give me about 3mths to put some extra towards it.

Despite being out of school for a couple of years, and working full time, both of us are finding it a real challenge to save up for our wedding. We only manage to put away about 300-400/month combined, as all of our expenses and accounts are already joint. Neither of us have very good jobs, and barely make enough each month to cover our expenses. We are both hoping our tax refunds will be big this year, so we can put those away towards the wedding. I also put my birthday money away, and any extra little bits I can spare. It is definitely going to be a lot of DIY projects for me to keep costs way down!

First thing that I would recommend doing is to sit down with your fiancé and prioritize where you’d like to spend your money; what’s most important to you: is that your food is the core, is that the entertainment. Think about what’s the most important. In that way, you’ll know how to save your money correctly.

  The second thing that I would recommend you do would be to reduce the size of your guests list. The more guests you have the more money you are going to spend overall. A lot of the times I do budgeting with my clients. I show the cost per guest average on how much money they are going to spend and sometimes their jaws drop on the floor when they see how much money they are spending for one person to come to their wedding.

  The third thing that I would recommend you do is that we need to look at alternative days to get married. Most people think: I’m getting married on a Saturday evening. You can save money by getting married on a Saturday afternoon, a Sunday or weekday. The best how you are going to get is getting married on a weekday. Most places have availability and I’ll work with you on your budget.

  My forth tip would be to choose an off-season date. A lot of people who want to get married along the coast like to choose May and October. That would be the off-season out of the desert. So if you are going to have a desert wedding, choose it in a warm month. If you are going to have it along the coast, choose it to do a cold month. You are going to save thousands of dollars by choosing an off-season date.

Well, I think there are many ways to save the money .  First and foremost I think  you need to have a budget so that you can have a clear mind of how to spend and save your money.

We are going to start a joint bank account and put in money each month. SunTrust has a deal going with their Delta debit card where you can get bonus frequent flier miles. I wanted to do that so that we could pay for our photographer's flight, but the minimum balance is pretty high and I'm not sure if it will work out. We are also working on eating out a lot less.

same with us.... May was a write off- didn't put anything away and actually had to dip in to pay for some expenses because we had so many things going on in May! No more! This Friday $500 is going back in there!
