Skyping your beach wedding?

Recommended Posts

Our wedding is in Jamaica on March 26, 2012 at the Grand Palladium Jamaica, on the beach. We booked it back in July and have 38 guests booked now.

Just a couple of weeks ago, we found out that my fiance's mother may not be able to come due to health reasons. Basically our worst nightmare :(   We will not know until Feb or March if she will be able to come. So we are all trying to stay as positive and hopeful as we can. But I would like to consider our options, just so we can be prepared for the worst case scenario.

We thought about Skyping the wedding so that she can "be there" from home.  But is it even possible to skype from the beach at the Grand Palladium? (We have never used skype before in our lives, so please forgive my ignorance). You obviously need a good internet connection, right? Which I don't know that the beach will have ...

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

We are also trying to figure out a way to do this, however we will be at Hacienda Tres Rios in Playa del Carmen. I was told the wireless internet through the resort likely isn't good enough to use on the beach but that there are vendors who provide live streaming of your wedding to the U.S. My fiance is also considering using his iPhone, that seems to be like the best/cheapest option that we have seen so far.

Hi Lindsayraz, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother in laws illness.  I hope it all turns out so that she can travel.  Skyping from the beach at Grand Palladium is going to be hard for the Hotel's Internet will not be strong enough.  However in Jamaica a lot of people use a Digicel modem or Claro Modem (It's about the size of a thumbdrive) and that works well with your laptop on the beach.  When I'm there, I use them both for in certain areas of Jamaica Claro works where Digicel doesn't :(  It will cost you about 70.00 in total to set it up and to do so all you need to do is go into town and purchase the modem.  There is also a company called Island Multi Media (http://www.islandms.com) who does a live video stream of the wedding.  Best wishes to you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
