What not to bring?

I'm planning a Bahamas wedding next November, I'm reading that many of you are doing OOT bags with water or food, and can't help but think... What can't you bring to the Bahamas? Or what you will buy for the wedding after you get there. I have heard all fireworks including sparklers are not allowed, and of corse produce, any thing else you have been told or heard about?

I'm not sure about the don'ts. I would reccomend you bring food and snacks with you because it's MUCH cheaper. You can find water there for $1 a bottle if you don't want to pay to bring it over but I would for sure brings snacks/candy with me. I bring that stuff all the time so I know it's allowed. I wanted sparklers but I discovered those lanterns, which you can fly with - so I'm changing my mind. I think the only problem you'll run into is paying to bring it along. What else were you thinking of bringing?

I'm actually trying to figure out how much decorations is a reasonable amount of decorations to bring. The island I'm going to doesnt have a whole bunch of rentals like some of the bigger islands. I also see everyone talking about OOT bags and I cant imagine taking all that stuff with me!

I found out that there are sources that offer OOTbags or gift bags/packages. I would ask all the vendors you talk to if they provide or can provide something for you. I saw a really great thread where a girl put a few small items in a water bottle, you can do that. I would take decorations that can double as something else, like favors. Like the personalized wine glasses with votives inside.

Sorry to butt in.. but do you ladies know anything about the Chinese sky laterns?  My fiance loves them, but I wasn't sure if those are banned from the Bahamas or anything.

Also, we are staying at the Atlantis, and since food seems to be rather expensive we plan on adding crackers and snack foods to our OOT bags and once we get to the island we're gonna go over to the grocery store and get cases of water so we can put bottles in the bags and not have to worry about traveling with them.

Hi Miss Bubbles, As far as I'm aware the sky lanterns are ok to bring in the country, because they are just paper and wire. But check with your coordinator at the location. They may have a different opinion. PS- I LOVE sky lanterns <3

Ohh- and I love that idea about going to the store after getting there, some people may not even leave the resort- and won't have to!

I am doing welcome drinks like this one: http://pinterest.com/pin/270427152594414422/  because I am already bringing in soo much stuff to decorate and will not have room to bring in OOT bags and goodies. Plus the area we will be there are grocery stores within walking distance.

Ahhh... My FI would be sooo estatic!!.. I'll def check with the coordinator. Thank you!!   I <3 them too, they are soooo pretty. :o)

We are staying at the Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas.. I've heard nothing but how expensive the food there is.. So I def want to make sure they have plenty of snacks and water.. This way maybe they will see we were being thoughtful and not want to ring our necks for the high food prices on the resort..

I'll have to chck out you pic when I get home tonight.. :o) My work has blocked us from getting on Pinterest. :o(

I def want to do OOT bags for our guests.. (our wedding is 14 months away and I'm already buying the stuff for them..) I hope I don't go overboard with wanting to do decorations... I would need a lot of extra bags... lol. Luckily the ceremony site we are going with is so beautiful (Cloisters) that I think we are just going to bring raffia fans wrapped in satin ribbon and have them laying on the chairs.

the resort your staying in.. Is it all inclusive?   And that's great that you will having a grocery store in walking distance!

I wanted to do sky lanterns at our resort and we were told we could not do them because of the fire hazard they posed. A lot of the restaurants and bars have the dried grass palapas roofs, so if a lantern landed on top of the roof, *poof* the structure would basically go up in flames!

I completely understand their reasoning, so I would check with your specific hotel on their policy.

Banned form pintrest?!?!? how horrible! My herat sank when I read that! I'm obsessed with it. :)

We were originally getting married at a resort (not-all inclusive) on the Island where my fioncee is from. :D

But we are now doing it at a private estate (long story) I may divulge that story later on. It was a big upset, but this little island has lots of shops and town within walkign distance. Much diffrent than PI. Things are expensive anywhere in the Bahamas beacuse of the duty, plus you add on a resort fee.. wozers!

I am soo in love with the idea of the OOT bags, I may change my mind later- but for now, I will be having two "comfort" baskets. (playing cards, sewing kits, sunscreen, snacks, aloe, pepto, ect.) one in my house were renting and one in my parents. So that in an emergency it's easily assessable. Plus the welcome drinks (ours will be Kalik beers) with the hand written welcome notes. Not sure how we will get them in their fridge just yet...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
