Not having a "reception" ??

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am getting married at the Royal in Cancun in June 2012. It's an all inclusive and the wedding package only includes a 1.5 hour "reception" with the package. It basically allows us enough time to have everyone have dinner together at one of the restaurants.

I will be paying for an additional cocktail hour after the ceremony, but I was thinking about not having a reception with a DJ/dance floor etc??

There are so many great nightclubs in Cancun that it seems kind of silly to hire a DJ+extra time for reception+ other incidentals which could be big money.

Question is:

Would it be terribly tacky to not have a "dance reception" at the hotel, but get all the younger guests to go to one of the clubs that evening??

I don't know what to do! Any opinions are welcome....

Thank you!

Melissa

I dont think it would be tacky, destination weddings are kind of a do what you feel thing. But I would look at the number of people who are going to be at your weddding, and you said the young people go to a club? Are you going to have a lot of older guests who would be left out?

Anyone would be able to come with us to the club. I am not going to just invite the "younger" people.

CocoBongo is just an amazing show on top of being a cool club to go to. I just don't want people to be pissed that there wasn't a "typical" reception that would would find at other weddings.

Could even look in to having a  reserved table and a specific club maybe? one thats close for the guests to get to. Still depending on the amnt of people you have attending.  Might be a better party at the club.  Hard to have a dance party if ya only have a handful of people .

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been to a few destionation weddings.  The first one they payed extra to rent a DJ and dance floor for the night of their wedding and the other was like you suggested, going to a club afterwords.  I think they each have pros and cons and each appeal to different types of peoples.  They were both great though and each showed the personality of the wedding couple.  Do what feels appropriate for you.

agreed... do what feels right for you and your guests.

We are waiting to see who all books with us, but we might be forgoing the actual reception as well.... we are having a AHR though.... depending on our guest makeup, we might do dinner, first dances, then just go to the "club" at the resort, which, I believe, is right on the beach.

i agree with the other girls, it definitely depends on your guests! we ended up doing the reception because we have about 75 people coming, so we felt we have to do something! we are not having a DJ however and are just going to have an ipod reception. we are trying to save money somewhere!

in the end i think its whats best for you, your FI and the group your having!

We are having our wedding at an all-inclusive also but the package only includes a 1/2 hr cocktail reception...so we figured we would have a sit down 2 hour private reception...but the more I think about it, we may do the dinner at one of the restaurants and then go to the resort club later for dancing...decisions decisions! It's going to come down to how many people book for us.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
