I have vacationed there in April 2010 & loved it!  We are looking to do a civil ceremony so I need to determine what day I have to arrive in order to be married by Wed at the latest.  LOL!

We originally thought we wanted a beach wedding for 4pm, but are thinking perhaps a Gazebo one instead.  Did you do a cocktail hour after the ceremony?  Then dinner?  Any insight you could share would be great!

Congrats & Thanks!  :-)

I cannot tell you how happy I am to have found this website.  AWESOME.  We are planning a wedding in Riviera Maya and are leaning toward using Apple Vacations to help take care of the travel arrangements and just purchase their wedding package. We are loving the pictures and pricing in the Riu Palace Riviera Maya.  When you guys post please share who you worked with and any advice you could provide.  I can't wait to see the pictures, I feel like we are great friends sharing something so meaningful.  This is both of our second marriages as we both were married young and probably shouldn't have gotten married in the first place so we are both doing something out of the ordinary and more relaxed, meaningful and memorable.  Keep up the good posts and I will do my best to share any findings as well.

Hi - Welcome to the site, Arptoark - you WILL LOVE IT!  welcome.gif

My name is Elissa and I am getting married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya on April 2, 2013.  It is my first wedding (I am going to be 44 in December) & my FI's 2nd (he's 48).  We are super excited!!!!!  Have you picked a date yet?  Cannot wait to hear your ideas!

There are a group of us brides on this website who are also marrying there.  We have been sharing ideas in the thread I pasted below:

It may help you to read this thread from beginning (page 1) to recent postings by us, the current brides, (page 379) to learn about the resort/wedding planning ideas.

MY FI & I used Wright Travel (highly recommended on this website).  Our TA is Wendy Hicks and she is FABULOUS!  We did a group booking and have 55 people booked so far!

Look forward to seeing and talking to you on the forum!

xoxo

It has been a long while since I have been on DW.  My fiancé and I are heading out to Riviera Maya this Saturday, January 12, 2013.  Cannot wait.  Our wedding date is tentatively set for the first week of December 2013.  We have 5 hotels we are considering and trying to get it down to our top 3 before we leave on Saturday.  Our goal is to visit the venues, choose one, pick the date and sign the contract (I hope).  We are no longer going with Apple Vacations as I stated before.  Unfortunately we didn't find that there was much of a savings having the wedding planned through them.  As of today we are planning on visiting Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe and Riu Palace and have to decide which third hotel is a contender.  We are leaning toward the Barcelo Deluxe.

I have a few questions for the group:

How did you all estimate how many people will be attending?  We are inviting about 100 people and I would like to think that we will have about 25-30 (which would equate to approximately 15 rooms) people but am not sure.  How necessary is it to have a good estimate, 1 year in advance?  I have not sent out the save the date or the announcement as we want to know what options we have for our guests stay.  Are we doing things backwards?

My other question is:  How much more do/did you have to pay above and beyond the wedding package?  Unexpected expenses?

Last question: I am a closet party planner and am really trying to let-go of many of the details of wedding planning, isn't that why many people choose a destination wedding?  I was telling my fiancé that maybe we should consider getting a storage space out there and send stuff to it!  Ha... just joking.  Did you have a color scheme?  Did they have favors and fun little personal touches?  Can you bring your own or do they provide stuff.

I have a zillion more questions but am doing my darnedest to take it slow.  :)

Thank you in advance for your consideration, comments and suggestions.

Hello I am newly engaged and I've made arrangements to have my wedding next Sept 2012 at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. I requested a beach front wedding. Has anyone had a wedding there? If so, how was it? Any advice. And which dining restaurant did you chose for the reception? Any pics of the wedding scenery would be great as well. This is my first time planning a wedding so I'm nervous. I just want everything to run smoothly with no drama, if that's possible :-)
I'm not sure if you'll read this! Just looking for a little feedback on your wedding. I am getting married May 31. I'm torn on whether or not I should use the resort photographer. Who did you go with?

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
    • Thanks! I had it printed out. Very useful!!
