November 2012 Brides?

Butting in late to this thread - just noticed it in the Recent Discussions! We're getting married November 24 in Tulum (Riviera Maya). I'm SO glad to not be the only ones not having sent out invites yet. It became a much more complicated process than I had anticipated, as we had to go with two versions for family reasons...

Adesir8: SOB (sister of the bride?) -- love it :-). I have a BOB (though he's not at ALL involved ;-)).

We also had a groomsman recently cancel, but decided not to dwell on it. We will miss him, but we knew when we started that there would be a possibility some of  our closest wouldn't be able to make it last-minute due to, well, life!

We're having a City Hall ceremony before we go to avoid worrying about blood tests and paperwork there (and because we live in San Francisco and have a gorrrgeous City Hall).

We have 129 people confirmed so far (I know it sounds crazy. But if we had the wedding at home in California, it probably would have been 400-500!).

Is anyone having to bring in large decorations like lanterns or tiki torches? Or know of a place in the Riviera Maya to purchase?

hi and welcome!

We are bringing paper lanterns with us, but not the tiki torches. and decided against renting them from Lomas, just not something we want to pay for.

You do have a large group - awesome!!!!

I have an SOB as well - she's not going. My BOB is going, so I guess 50% isn't bad lol

Thanks, AllieH! We just heard from our coordinator that there's a Sam's Club in Playa that carries some decor items so I think we'll try to avoid bringing too much. Yay for BOBs :-).

Shan0487, ahhhhh! I hit that four-month marker tomorrow :-). And you are getting married on my birthday! We thought about doing the 23rd, too, so as to never forget our anniversary ;-P. Our venue only has 24 rooms, and a lot of Tulum's hotels are rustic boutique hotels -- it definitely has given us an extra step to consider for transportation and pre-wedding event logistics. But despite our group size, we wanted something really laid-back and intimate, so decided to go the non-resort way.

Thanks for the welcomes! Looking forward to hearing more about everyone's planning processes.

Well I picked a good day then! You will have a lot to celebrate!!! Nov 23rd is actually our 7 1/2 year anniversary, so that is why we picked that day! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

is it me, or is time flying?? I'm close to the 3 month mark now. RSVPs are coming back, and flights are being booked! I'm so excited every time a friend posts that they have airfare, or we get another RSVP in the mail.

and we've had our pre-wedding crisis - our AC went out over the weekend and we had to replace the whole freakin system. ouch.

I can't tell you how ready I am for Mexico...

TIME IS FLYING BY!!!  I just finished ordering my invitations for those that are not attending the wedding and I need to take my boarding pass invites (for those that are attending the wedding) to Office Depot to have printed so I can start on those!

We set the date for my fiance's side of the family shower- Sept 16- so that means we need to kick it into gear and start registering!!! Guess what we'll be doing next weekend? lol

That sucks about your ac!! We are house shopping, so I can't wait for all my $ to go toward that instead of wedding stuff..not, haha.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
