Hi all,

Grateful for some advice - I can't believe how AMAZING this forum is! I'm totally debating over which Excellence property will be the best fit for our wedding in January 2016. I've looked at both EPM and ERC - love so many things about each though both are different in terms of reception options and wedding sites.

What we're trying to keeps things authentic and a great overall experience for everyone (I really don't want remnants of the lunch buffet behind the Mr. and I during our first dance lol).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Jenn

PS: is there a bonfire on the beach package here?

@ jenniferleigh1122 I think some other brides have looked at both properties, too, and have decided on ERC if they are on this thread :) I have been to a wedding at EPM and it was beautiful of course, but I wanted something different for my wedding. I love the gazebo option for the ceremony, and the piers for photos, and EPM does not have those options. I do not believe there is a bonfire package here. EPM is newer, however, they have been updating ERC over the past year as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice!

Quick question: Has anyone used Destination Weddings to plan their ERC wedding? We have previously booked with a TA, but just received a new promotion that is amazing for ERC through Destination Wedding. Plus, I have had some concerns with our TA in the short amount of time I have been dealing with her. Also, if we have made a deposit, is it best to cancel the deposit or will Destination Weddings be able to "assume" that reservation?

I'm using them, but I booked too early and missed the promotion. They're okay, I like being able to view exactly who has booked and for what dates on the website. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I'm not sure if they can assume reservations though, you may have to ask about that.

Thanks for the info @@TNT2015. I am just anxious if we cancel and re-book we will lose our day. I guess I could speak with Jessica and explain the situation. That's a shame that they won't retro do your package to get you the best deal. It will save us like $2,000 so I need to at least look into it at this point.

Were the room rates good for your guests?

Welcome! I know, isn't it just the best? So helpful...

I think it depends what you're after. The ERC is more of the "Mediterranian Style" where as the EPM is much more modern. I have not stayed at EPM (yet) but have friends who have gone to both. I've been to ERC, i notice more brides on here that have gotten married at the ERC but I think it's because it's been around longer. Either will be a great selection! Their service is second to none!

I'm not positive about the bonfire. They offer fire shows/tiki torches and a few other items on their add-ons. You can definitely inquire with the resort.

@@Giocivs88 It's so close! Enjoy every second of it.

We used Destination Weddings and I liked them.  We had a few minor bumps, but overall good service and we got really good pricing through them.  If I didn't use them I would have used the TA's on here.

Hi There All! TA Wendy here... I have booked many wedding groups at and actually stayed at both of the Excellence properties.. they are very similar in the lobby design, and amenities, and rooms are quite similar in design as well. EPM is on a beach that is protected and very small waves due to the island of Isla Mujeres sitting just off the coast.. I find it to be the more swimmable of the two. They are both about the same drive time distance from the Cancun airport, although ERC is going to be just south on the highway and a turn in, whereas with EPM you are going through towns and residential areas and it is a bit more stop and go traffic on the drive, so could potentially make it a bit longer to get there, (and not as pretty of a drive).

Both have the same great in room, full bottle alcohol set up, and both have many swim up rooms, and also terrace suites that are wonderful for Bride and Groom! Both have great selection of restaurants, and great entertainment in the evenings. My one quibble if you could even call it that is both of their wedding "Gazebos" while beautiful, have in my opinion a backwards set up.. normally bride and groom would have their backs to the ocean, guests looking out towards the beach. This is the opposite in both of their Gazebo settings.. so B&G are looking towards ocean, and guests have their backs to the beach.. still pretty garden background but I would have designed it the opposite way, and indeed I just stayed at their new resort The Finest and they HAVE turned it around on that resort.

Otherwise Excellence is a great choice no matter which of the two you select and there are actually many locations for wedding set up. If I can answer any questions for anyone, I am glad to.. for the last several years I have been one of the top booking agents in the US for all of the Excellence group, The Beloved and The Finest, and know most details about the resorts. : )

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
