I am paying a lot for my photographer. Here is what I have so far...

$2600: Base includes 8 hours + $300 print credit

$475: DVD of all images + copyright letter

$450: Boudoir Shoot + $100 print credit

$300: Engagement + $100 print credit

$700: 2 plane tickers

$1000: 3 nights stay at hotel

$800: Album

$?: Misc. expenses, as we will be treating them as a guest

So about $7,000

That's scary to look at, but it is worth it to me!!!

I am using the resort photographer. I debated whether or not to hire an outside one, but to be honest, photography isn't one of my main priorities (no disrespect to all of the photographers here!) (also...funny since this forum is so about pictures...lol!). I am guessing that it will cost anywhere from $1000-$2000 to use the contracted RIU photographer.

Photography was a big one to us, and we actually found our photographer when we thought we were getting married in Santa Fe, NM. But we fell in love with her work, so we are bringing her with us to Cabo. We're spending a lot on it, but it's a total fee, and for four days of photography (around $9k). It's a lot, but for me, worth every penny.

Finally a post where I can brag about saving money (see alterations, dress and invitations posts :). I am getting a really awesome deal, partially b/c my wedding is off-season in the states, and partially b/c the photographer isn't super well known yet and wants to build his portfolio to include more destination weddings.

I am paying a flat fee of $3000 ($1000 for his travel, which I booked, and $2000 for his photog. services).

For this fee I am getting:

- 3 hours of photography for the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner

- All day the day of the wedding (no time limit)

- Trash the dress/day after the wedding photos at the ruins (his suggestion)

His portfolio is awesome. Check out his website:

I think his rates have gone up a bit, but he is still reasonable. He lives in Seattle and will fly anywhere. I will post a review when I get back from the honeymoon in November.

I don't know what Riu's policy on outside photographers is, but we had looked into Jamaican photographers before talking to Robin DePaula. Sungold Photography is out of Negril, and we really liked their work. They weren't available for our date, but they were about $1900 for all the whistles and bells. We are super psyched to be working with Robin - her deal worked perfectly within our budget, and she's such a sweetheart! We can't wait to meet her :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
