what does it say as your "Condition" (marital status) on your marriage certificate?

Recommended Posts

To all brides who got married in Jamaica - if you were single/never married at the time your wedding, what does your marriage certificate say? I finally got mine in the mail today 6 months after my wedding. i was so excited.  But i felt kind of jilted when below my name and above my occupation and age, it says my "condition" (meaning marital status before this wedding i assume) is "Spinster"  !!!!!!!  I was like WHAT?!  Spinster means old maid!     And below my husband's name (this is also his first marriage), it says he was a "Bachelor".

I was 30 years old when I got married, i don't think that qualifies as "Spinster!" !!!!!

I am curious if they do this for everyone, or is like age 30 when you become a Spinster in Jamaica?   I am curious to hear from married in Jamaica brides in their 20s and 30s.

Thanks!

I know this is a weird thing to get upset over and i am sure it will pass (I just opened the envelope like 5 minutes ago), but I really want to hear from others about this!

You know, when I started reading this thread, I didn't think I'd be able to answer it, but I definitely remember it saying "spinster" now!!  Hahhahaa, I think it's funny, but I remember not liking it much either.  I was 29 when we got married, so not young by any means, but still in my 20's so I think that vetoes your theory.  I think it's just the term for single lady!

When we were filling out our forms for our resort I had to list my current status.  It gave me the options of spinster divorced or widowed.  I choose to write beside that single, because I had no idea what spinster was and I didn't feel it described me!  We will see what comes on our marriage certificate once we are married.

That's strange, but at least it's memorable cheesy.gif  That seems really crazy that it took 6 months to get your marriage license. Is that the typical time period, or was it due to delays by your resort in submitting the paperwork?

OMG!  I am so sorry, but I am laughing so hard right now!  That doesn't even sound real!  Craziest thing I have heard (today at least!)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
