I don't know any out of Chicago, but I would STRONGLY recommend one of our BDW Travel Agents.  This is what they do, they help plan destination weddings.  I used Tammy, and she rocked and honestly saved me a ton of headaches.  Since you really do it all over the phone anyway, I don't think the location of the travel agent really matters.  You can contact them HERE

First off, WELCOME!!!!

Second, this weather is crazy!!!  I had a couple who wanted their engagement session done in the snow.  We live in Wisconsin easy peasy... HA!  We have been waiting since January and rescheduled four times (it would snow but melt before we could do pictures)!!  Finally this past Sunday we had five inches and we were able to get the photo session done.  And it was a good thing we did it at 8:30 in the morning because by noon the snow was practically gone already!!  CRAZY!!!

I know! We were supposed to have this major snowstorm last Friday (first Winter Storm watch the entire winter, so weird again) and we ended up getting a dusting. Just a dusting. I had a friend get married the last weekend of January, hoping for a winter wedding, and we had nothing. Her whole theme was snowflakes! lol. Good to hear she got snow for the pics.

Hi all,

I love this midwest group! I am from Minneapolis, MN and am currently planning a fall 2013/early 2014 wedding on a cruise with our wedding in St. Thomas. I wish I could start planning more, however, my Fi and I are also trying to buy a house. I really didn't want to buy a house and get married in the same year.

Not sure if there are any other Minnesota brides on the board?

Also, thanks for the recommendation of the BDW Travel Agents! I didn't know where to start with TAs - so thanks!

Welcome!  There are more Minnesota brides, in fact, AnnR WAS a Minnesota bride... but now she's living in Chicago.

Buying a house is definitely an extra stress.  Hopefully everything will fall into place though so you can start planning your wedding and your life together :)

I notice this is an older thread, but I am in the NW Chicago burbs and just started planning my DW.

The TA I am working with is great - an internet agency based in PHL, but am dealing directly with the owner.  Super responsive and I have used him for years for other vacations and referred lots of people to him over the years.  We just nailed down the contract for our room block at the IB Tucan/Quetzal.  Now we need to send out invites so people can go and book.  :)

Yep, Trish is right, I was a Mpls girl ... still am at heart.  I was born and raised in the western burbs, Maple Grove/Plymouth.  But for the years before moving to Chicago we lived in Minneapolis, close to Lake Harriett.

As for buying a house - we did that too!  We closed on April 7th and married in June ... may as well get it all done!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
