I am doin the symbolic ceremony at the Melia on November 16, 2013 but doing my reception at the Jellyfish restaurant....I am having an issue within the photography. The Melia apparently has a contract with Arrecife Studio but I found a better deal with another company BUT Melia charges you a fee of $1000 to use another company!!! That is just ridiculous...has any one else had any issues or suggestions...

I am getting married at the Melia on November 16, 2013 but just doing the symbolic ceremony there and the reception at the Jellyfish Restaurant. I am having difficulty w the photographer situation. Apparently melia has a contract w Arrecife studio but I found a better deal w an outside company...yet Melia would charge me $1000 to use someone other than Arrecife!!! That is just ridiculous....anyone having any issues w the same thing or any other suggestions :/...??

Unfortunately this is a common practice in the Dominican Republic, even well know American Brand Hotels (i.e. Hard Rock) charge a copyright fee for an outside photogrpher.  It is upseting :( I guess if you don't want to pay the fee you can have your whole wedding at Jellyfish, but there is not a dressing room there. Money grabbing practice, maybe you can tell her that due to the fee your are considering moving your ceremony to the Jellyfish unless the fee can be discounted.  That might help them change their mind..... Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
