ROR Jamaica 2012 Brides

Roxanne- I will be having the private reception on the beach.  I fell in love with the setup from Tai Flora and decided it was something I wanted to splurge on! We have more people coming than anticipated (roughly 60 now) so that will drive up the costs, but I have my mind set on moving forward with this setup regardless. It definitely does add up quickly... :(

For private dinners it is $55 per person

$500 set up fee

The lights around the pool side reception are an additional $490
>> the chair covers and ribbons are $11 per chair The system rental
>> without a dj is $150 per hour.

It's really adding up :(

Hi Tia,

Thank you so much!

well we had booked as a group and some of us upgraded to ocean view. when we got there we were informed that ocean view meant only a partial view of the ocean. well our view was of a tree....just a tree. when i complained they said that it is a partial view and if i go to the corner of my balcony and lean around the tree i could see the ocean!!! WTF!! so after asking for a supervisior and then a manager and explaining we have brought 32 ppl i finally got upgraded to an ocean front room! They didnt seem to care at all that we were a bride and groom. they did nothing to make us feel special at all!! i later found out they automatically upgraded our photog to a jr suite for no reason. they didnt even ask!! WTH!

other issues we encountered were that booking restaurants was impossible! i went down sunday morning and the week was already booked solid unless we wanted to eat at 9 pm and no chance of a big group gettin in! when we were able to convince them to book the 16 girls into a restaurant we showed up for our meal and they had moved our reservation to 8pm and decided not to tell us!!! when i asked why they would do that they said they werent sure if we would all show up!! it blows my mind! so i was pissed!! they didnt seem to care at all.  the saving grace is that the buffet food is really good so eating there every night was fine.

if i can suggest make sure you book any restaurants the first day you are there!

also try the blue ocean drink!! its sooo super yummy!!

we did write our own ceremony and the minister did a great job reading it! i wouldnt have changed it at all! the wedding day was so serene and calm! we had amazing weather and everything went perfectly!!

the entertainment crew was amazing there!! the nightly shows are fantastic!! i have travelled alot and this place by far beats them all!

I was just wondering what the issues were that you had with the resort and if you had any helpful hints or tips!

Did you write your own ceremony?

Congrats Mrs!! So happy for you and your husband and glad the day was a good one for you both :) Sorry to hear your troubles with the reservations and the room but I'm glad you were upgraded to the "oceanfront" that really has the view of the ocean, lol. I had stayed there in November and stayed in the oceanview room. A little disappointing but we still had a good time. But this time around I'm going to request the upgrade. While we were there, a big conference was happening which started on our 4th night! So getting reservations was next to impossible. On Sunwing, do they have a place to hang your dress? I look forward to seeing your pictures just to get a better idea. It's one thing to ask the wedding coordinator but a bride truly understands the worries and concerns. Congrats again!

Congratulations! Iâ€m glad to hear that overall the trip was great and your day was amazing!

I hope to be able to read your review before I leave.

I have been looking at the weather recently and it doesnâ€t appear Ocho Rios has had a lot of sun. Did you get rain while you were there?

What were the hassles you had with luggage overages? I assume you flew from Pearson so Iâ€m likely going to have the same troubles.

sunwing doesnt have a closet but they do have an overhead bin designated for wedding dresses. my TA reserved my dress a spot in it before hand. we also put my husbands suit in with it (heheh husband sounds so wierd).

i didnt upgrade the cake and just used the free one and it was plenty for 32 ppl....we acutally had extra!! i had emailed keisha beforehand asking why we were charged an extra 10.50 pp over the 10 included in our package and she said it was for cake and campagne. so i said i wasnt intersted in upgrading those. she came back saying if we didnt want to upgrade it would still be 5.50 pp for chair rentals.....i was like huh? why would we have to rent chairs when they are already there?? so in the end she didnt charge me any extra!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
