Photographers

I need help in choosing a photographer!  I really do not want to bring a photographer with me as that can be very expensive.  I have looked at several within Jamaica. But I am having trouble in choosing. I would like to hear about other people's experiences.  I would like to know if the shoot was fun, did the photographer capture the best moments, how long did you wait to get your photos, was the package worth what you paid, etc.

Any info will help now, Thanks!

I used Marcia Roberts she was fantastic, I highy recommend her. She did not charge per hour she was there for us as long as we needed her. We had a 500vendor fee and she took that into consideration when quoting us the amount. She captured all the little moments. We received all photos she took on a disc plus a montage with music on other cd. It took about. 3 weeks to receive the discs once we got home. I had contacted a few photographers and she phoned me the next day I was impressed with that since I waited days for the other reponses

So far I have contacted SAAB Photography, Marcia Roberts, and Misha Earle.  Both Michael  Saab and Marcia Roberts have replied to my requests very quickly.  I still have not heard from Misha.  I have also checked out Merrick Cousley, but I have not emailed him.  The resort uses Digipix... I am not a huge fan of their work.  I really like the others I have mentioned but its a tough choice.

Any other recommendatins are appreciated.

cvgreene,

I have Misha Earle's quotes, if you'd like it I can PM you with it. I'm also looking for a photographer, but haven't decided yet. I'm leading towards Marcia Roberts. She doesn't have a time limit, emails back promptly with any questions I have had for her and has the best price too!! She does include the vendor vees. I inquired with Merrick Cousley, but they are totally booked for the month of December!

I know you originally did not want to bring a photographer with you however I really think you should take at look at Verve Photo Co out of Toronto, Canada.   I have had two experiences with this company one with my own engagement photos and a close friends wedding photos ( my wedding photo's too in Dec 2011!!!) and can't begin to express how impressed I was with Krista Fox ( photographer who I worked with). Verve Photo Co has two photographers who work together to capture the magic, love and joy of your special day. They specialize in weddings and have been featured in WedLuxe Magazine and on Style Me Pretty.   My experience with Krista Fox was so relaxed, natural and most of all fun.  Krista's experience with weddings makes her artistic eye keen for those special moments, and loving looks that are often only captured by someone who has a true passion for photography, weddings and most of all love between couples.

My experience with Verve Photo Co has been timely, professional and most of all personal.  I got a large range of photos on a disc promptly after the shoot, and was not disappointed with one.   Your wedding day is over in 24 hours, however the photographs will last forever. Krista was amazing at working with the natural Mexican surroundings to find unique locations to shoot photos.  Verve Photo Co is so worth looking into. I am using them for my wedding in Dec 2011 in the Mayan and can't wait! Here are the links to their web page, and to their blog page so that you can see some of the work.

Misha Earle got back to me and since than the repines from her has been really quick. She even has replied on the same which I was impressed with. Her work is fantastic and I have read only good about her. I would love to have the ability to take a photographer with us but it really is not in our budget. It is difficult to make a choice without meeting the photographer.

I will be booking with Sun Gold. Their photography is amazing. I love how they are able to capture those small moments, a fathers face or the bridesmaids tears, with such beauty. Their polished and honed experience really comes through.  You can tell they have a great rhythm for the flow of weddings as well as a great ability to make the staged photographs look natural. I've noticed that while Sun Gold might cost a little extra their final images are very consistent. Some of the lesser priced photography companies don't take the time to color correct their photographs and it shows, sometimes with the same shots being different hues!! I highly recommend Paula, she's been a joy to work with!! Also, resorts do not charge a vendor fee if you choose Sun Gold.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
