I'm getting married at the Dreams Cancun Resort on May 31st 2013. I've had my guest confirmed then I originally planned so I was thinking of eliminating the cocktail hour to cover the cost of the additional guest. The only dilemma is that I was planning on taking my pictures while my guest were enjoying cocktail hour. If I eliminate it, what would my guests be doing? Have any of you ladies came across this problem? Do you have any advice?

Hey there! I just got married this last Saturday and can fully confirm that your cocktail hour is not needed! Guests can entertain themselves without a doubt. We did what you are considering and used the cocktail hour to pay for guests for dinner. If you are using the gazebo, there is a lobby bar that is right in front of it and your guests can hang out there until you're done. The planner tells everyone where to meet at 6. I thought it was great because it gave the guests some time to freshen up and mingle. Seriously.....the drinks are free anyway and the lobby area has seating as well. It was nice and the time flew by.

I agree with previous posts. Guests can entertain themselves for an hour, especially when you are at an AI, they can go for drinks or food on their own. Another option is to have your pictures taken before the ceremony. I was reading a blog post from a photographer, saying that they love to capture the groom's reaction when they first see the bride, which is not always possible when she's walking down the aisle because all the attention is on her. He also mentioned that you get to spend more time with your guests. I don't know if you're up for breaking the tradition, but I'm definitely considering it. I want his reaction on pictures :)

you mentioned Del Sol photography, does anyone have a rough idea of the price of their packages? I'm trying to put together a sort of budget, and we want to know how much we should set aside for a photographer. I love Del Sol's work, but I'm not sure we can afford them.

I contacted Del Sol and although their work is beautiful they were very expensive in my opinion. It all depends on what you want to splurge on. I decided to go with Juan Navarro. I absolutely LOVE LOVE his work and he is very reasonably priced.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
