I agree ladies. It is so frustrating to not know what is and what isnt charged extra for as far as outside vendor fees. A few months ago, I was feeling incredibly frustrated with the experience. I love my planner, Cecilia, but I was feeling like there are A LOT of extra costs associated the wedding and Ive had to get crafty with the wedding.

We decided to go with the dreams because we thought it would be a good way to get everything we wanted in a beautiful place at a price we could afford, but when we started adding all of the costs, fees, taxes that we needed to pay additionally it became very expensive.

I have been feeling some stress because I want to have a beautiful wedding but I feel like I have to sacrifice a lot :(.

I know exactly how you feel. I was so stressed out and even with the bare minimum I spent in all including my wedding gown about 12-15k. I went over budget and found out that I really did not need as much as I went with since the location was so beautiful. it is so disappointing but in the end you will be so happy since that location rivals no other. There is no place in Cancun that is this beatiful. We toured 10 places while we were out there for our site visit. I went to overboard with the out of town bags too. No one really used much from what I bought for them. In the end when i look back at the pictures and remember how perfect the wedding was I realize how perfect everything really turned out. Your wedding will be amazing!!!

I agree. I am getting so stressed as everything just seems to be adding up, and I feel like this is only going to get worse once I get there. I didn't do a site visit and have no idea what to expect. I feel so unprepared!!! Jana, reading your post did make me feel better though. It's nice to know you felt like it was worth it! And I'm glad to hear how beautiful it is there. A few questions not sure If anyone can answer.... How does the food work? Can you only choose one appetizer entree and dessert for all your guests? Or do they get a choice? My maid of honor is vegetarian and celiac and I'm getting worried there will be nothing for her to eat... Also, I'm nervous the reception is going to be too short. I'm having it from 6 to 9 and then have decided to pay extra for an additional hour but I'm still worried this wont be long enough. 10 pm seems so early! One more.... Where is everyone having their receptions? Right now I have mine planned for the beach but I'm wondering if this isn't the right choice... Which oter areas can we have a dinner and dance at dreams? Thanks girls... You guys have been great helps. I love coming on here and reading posts!

I had a sister in law that was vegetartian and a nephew with a list of food allergies. They really accomadate you. You basically pick one menu for everyone and do not get to otder individually. They will accomadate people like your family and my family giving them a personalized menu.

I would not bother to pay for the extra hour at the reception. There is a dance club that is on site that is almost always empty and is free. we took the party over there and it was soooo much fun! You will have an amazing time!

I had my reception on the club terrace but I understand they are not offering that anymore. I think the beach is a nice option too. You just can't really go wrong...you'll see. :)

Robaarts, I dont know much about the menu options or the locations though I did a site visit back in February! All of the locations are beautiful. I even saw one girl had her reception at the gazebo which looked phenomenal! We are going to have our on the beach, though we may need to switch it if our guests list swell above 60 people (Im American and my fiance is from Mexico so we arent sure how many people will be able to make it). I think all the locations are exceptional the location of the hotel is fabulous!

About the addtional hour, I think 3 or 4 is enough. I know it doesnt seem like a lot because most weddings go on for 5 hours in the US, but Cancun has a lot of different options from the club at the resort to tons of bars within walking distance ( you really cant go wrong)! Also I know this may seem silly but I am thinking a lot of people are tired after spending their days swimming in the ocean/ pool and drinking. Their whole vacation is a party, so I don't think they will feel like its not long enough.

This website is so great! I love sharing ideas, seeing advice and all the support!

PS: When is your big day?

Thanks so much guys! One more question, did any of you have a rehearsal dinner or going to have one? If so where and how did that work? I'm wondering if I could just make a reservation for like 25 people at an a la carte but I'm guessing they find some way to charge for that... Ha ha. We are getting married January 6!

Robaarts!!! I am sooo excited :) I arrive on January 8th! :) And when I did my Site visit they told me that you can make reservations at Paloma Bonita for free. This is new because Dreasm Cancun was the only dreams wihtout a mexican restaurant. I contact the consierge and she said that i could make a reservation there for dinner for a large party (I didnt mention rehearsal dinner :)) the only downside is that it has to be done the morning of!!! I plan to do that. You can email the consierge for the "Free" menu. There is also there standard menu which dreams guests get 20% discount on.

Good morning to all:

I know this is a 2013 Bride forum, I am a 2014 Bride but could really use some direction! I was using destinationweddings.com as a wedding planner, but the planner keeps pushing other resorts on me and I really wanted to do Dreams. Has anyone else had an experience like this or are using a wedding planner? I have sent numerous requests to the resort and haven't heard back a thing and really want to reserve our date! Thanks so much for your advice. =)

 NikkiB369,

First, Congratulations on your engagement!

I think you should contact the resort directly. They have their own planners that can help you so you dont need to use an outsourced planner.t  Although if you wnat to do something in an out of the resort you may need the help of another planner as the WCs DO NOT work outside of the resort (we had to find a church on our own). That being said, I think the planners at the resort know best and most have been working their for years (doing weddings every weekend). They do Beautiful work. I am so sorry to hear you are having so much trouble and getting pushed in different directions. Have you ever visited the dreams?

If you need a contact at Dreams Cancun I am working with Cecilia (one of the wedding coordinators). Her email is weddings1.drecu@dreamsresorts.com.

I hope this helps!!!! You are still a ways out but I started planning and looking around the same time as you!!!

Good Luck & Best Wishes!

They do, there is a pre set menu that is included, and you can make reservations that morning. If you want food that is NOT on the preset menu, it is a 20% i believe discount off of the menu price. You can get this info from the Concierge. The Mexican restaurant is just outside the resort to the right (right next door).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
