Kristie,

I am thinking about doing a cocktail hour after the ceremony, before the reception too. Have you gotten any info on that? I don't want to jinx myself (knocking on wood) but I think we are going to make it to 75 nights to get to the free events, but on that day we would exceed the 3 hour per day limit. so i guess we would just have cocktail hour and reception and then just pay for whatever amount the reception exceeded the time limit. I don't know how strict they are on that. My ceremony is a 6, so with the parties outside having to end by 10:30 rule there isn't a whole lot of time for it to go past, but I wonder how strict they are on that too... has anyone heard anything?? I am getting close to 3 months out and can't wait to talk to someone. I attended the webinar and she said you should be in some contact at 6 months, but I haven't heard from anyone and my TA said that's normal. Has anyone else? Kristie, what are you doing for your makeup/hair?

Has anyone been in contact with Marvin for flowers? I emailed him about a week ago, but havent heard anything back.

Hi Jenni,

I'm hopefully doing a cocktail hour after the ceremony, before the reception as well (if we get to our 75 room night goal!). I have a friend who did a cocktail hour after her ceremony at the Dreams Resort at her destination wedding and it worked out perfectly! It gives the bridal party a chance to go down to the beach after the ceremony for pictures, and the guests have a cocktail hour to attend during that break. Then when the bridal party is done with pictures, everyone heads up to the reception. My ceremony is at 6 as well. The ceremony should only be 20-30 minutes, pictures about an hour (during which your guests head to the hour long cocktail party), and everyone heads to the reception around 7:30 or 8:00. That leaves 2 1/2 to 3 hours for reception. I didn't know there was a 10:30 cut off time, but I guess that's ok. I think 3 hours is long enough for dinner and dancing. That means you would only have to pay 1 hour extra for going over the 3 hour limit.

My wedding coordinator ( who I paid directly for the wedding package- I'm doing Pearl Shimmer) has been so helpful. I actually spoke to my wedding planner (through email) as well, but she's extremely busy with current wedding at the Beach Palace so my coordinator (also through Beach Palace) has answered all my questions. I would email Beach Palace directly and demand that someone contact you ASAP.

I've booked Tania Tagle for makeup. She is will known in Cancun for airbrush makeup and she comes to your hotel to do yours and the bridesmaids makeup. I also have her coming the day before the wedding for a trial makeup session (which works well for the rehersal dinner). For hair- I have a couple hair dresser friends attending the wedding who will do mine and my bridesmaids hair.

For flowers- I'm going to purchase silk bridesmaid flowers beforehand and have my bridesmaids each hold their own in their suitcases. The flowers look really real, and they're much cheaper than buying through Marvin or the hotel. I believe the wedding package comes with a real bouquet for the bride.

Congrats and good luck with everything!

- Nicole

Jenni,

I havent recieved any info yet. (I hit 75 room nights! yahoooo) I also am having my ceremony at 6pm reception at 7:30. So the plan was 20-30in ceremony then cocktail hour and then the reception from 7:30-10:30. I was told from my original contact from the Miami office that it is $60/per table per hour for the additonal time. But a recent bride told me that she didnt book the extra hour and no one said anything and they continued until 10:30. So im not really too sure about this.

For Make Up and Hair I am using Norma from MAC, she bring a hair dresser with her. She charges $250 for bride hair and makeup and $130 for bridesmaids. (but you have to pay for the day passes for both of them $91 each i think)

For flowers I purchased real touch flowers from Bloom Bridal- should recieve them in Feb!

I had been in contact somewhat with Janessa too. I emailed her to request they allow me to go ahead and book the Sky Terrace for my ceremony instead of having to wait until 3 months out. That is the only BP contact I have had and since the Miami office closed, nothing else.

CONGRATS on hitting 75 nights, Kristie!!!! I am pretty sure we are going to get there too, but we really have A LOT of people waiting until the last minute to book, so I don't want to jinx myself :). How did you find out about Norma? Can't wait for you to do your site tour, hope you get us lots of great information!! I have a friend that does makeup for a living and have asked her to give me MANY tutorials so I am strongly considering just buying quality stuff that she recommends for the humidity and such and doing it myself. I am such a control freak about stuff like that, that I think it might work out best, but also makes me super nervous!!! I just cant decide. I think I am going to do hair trials at home and take lots of pictures and just have the spa there do it. I have read lots of reviews and everything has said as long as you have plenty of pictures (and not trying to describe to them what you want) that they do a great job. So hopefully that works out!

You saying a bride told you they let her go an extra hour without saying anything is exactly what I was wondering about. I was curious about how that was handled... if it was a decision that could be made right the second like ok time is up, party is still going strong, we want to go another hour so just charge me for that OR if its a decision you have to make ahead of time and if decide not to they shut you down promptly when your time is up.

Kristie & Nicole, what are your plans for DJ/music for reception?

Kristie,

My wedding is July 12th, 2013. My coordinator is Clarissa but my planners name is Margarita (both from BP). Clarissa has been a huge help! She is the one I had to pay for the Pearl Shimmer wedding package. Margarita emailed me with flower, cake, food menu, etc...options but I haven't had much contact with her yet; mostly Clarissa! Are you doing the complimentary package? I'm thinking maybe they contacted me so soon because I'm paying so much for the Pearl Shimmer package, and it was paid upfront. I don't know though, just a guess. I started planning in September 2012, so I never worked with the Miami office at all.

I'm only using Tania for airbrush makeup + fake lashes- for that it's $125.00. Bridesmaids are $90.00 each. Regular makeup for the bride (not airbrush) with lashes is $100.00, and for bridesmaids is $70.00.

Hope that helps! I think Norma from MAC is a little less expensive, but I likes Tania Tagle's work more.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
