I don't think there are really any rules when it comes to an AHR.  Everyone does what works for them, so I say do what you want!

Just spoke to the fiance about this and we've decided to do it within three months of the wedding but not right after. I cannot plan the wedding and the AHR at the same time. Nor do I want to throw myself right back into party planning when we return. I think within three months is a respectable time frame.

Hi...our wedding is the first week of Feb, and our AHR is booked for the last weekend in May.  It will be a BIG Sunday brunch with breakfast foods only at my request (my favourites!)...mimosas, bennies, stuffed french toast, bacon, ham, chorizo, hashbrowns, fresh fruit platters, cinnamon buns...you name it!  We didn't want to worry about a dance or a bar (my side of the family is more conservative...mentally and financially I just didn't even want to attempt an evening reception).

Timing-wise, I wanted to allow plenty of time for the photographer to get our DVD done so that we could show it...we wanted (hopefully!) for it to be warm enough out for people to not have to drive in iffy winter weather and also so that my parents could host a bbq for our side of the family the night before.  But we also wanted it early enough that we didn't intrude on anyone's camping/summer plans (which is also why we avoided the long weekend in May).

MJKH thanks for the brunch idea. I'm trying to find a way to do it and include my step-daughter. If we do something at night, at a bar, then we'd rather it just be for adults which excludes her. We also live in London, UK, so planning anything outside like a bbq is dicey. But finding a nice venue for brunch could work. Brilliant!

We are doing ours about 6 weeks after, getting married the 8th of October, and having our reception 11/24, which is thanksgiving weekend because a lot of our friends and family will be home for the holiday! it is turning into a nightmare, I have to do more planning and organzing for this reception then I do for the one in the Dominican Republic!!!!

We originally wanted it to be two weeks after the wedding, but it just didn't really work out with my mom's schedule and our honeymoon options.  Now, we're planning on having the AHR 4 wks after the wedding.  Wedding is October 6th, AHR is Nov 3rd.  We're still toying with the idea of having it on October 27th though.  The date will be final sometime next month.  :o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
