What color pashminas?

Recommended Posts

My bridesmaids are wearing plum purple dresses.  Because we are getting married in a Catholic church and the women have to have their shoulders covered.  As part of their gift I am purchasing pashminas for them to wear during the ceremony.  However, I cannot decide on which color.  Any thoughts would be helpful.  FYI my colors are white with hints of lavender in the flowers, aside from the girls dresses.  The guys are wearing charcoal grey suits.  So I am trying to decide between a pale purple, ivory, or light grey/silver.  Please let me know what you think.

I guess this is truly an example of when each idea is different; I would go with pale purple! (So there you are, one vote for each!). If not that, then the grey/silver I think, to really coordinate everything together.

PS - Sllefebvr, now I am really curious - where on earth did you find them for that great a price?

I have only seen this in the strictest of Catholic churches in Italy. I think it's a Vatican tradition that has stuck around in certain churches.

I also think that they may make exceptions for weddings. I attended a regular mass at a Catholic church in Italy. The relative that I went with told me that the more liberal priest at that church would serve Communion to women with exposed shoulders. But the priest conducting that particular mass was not the liberal one, so she didn't even go up for communion (she was wearing a sleeveless dress that covered the top of her shoulders, but stopped short of covering the rounded part of the shoulders). I later attended a wedding at that same church. The bride wore a strapless dress. I am not sure if this was allowed because

  • this time it was the liberal priest conducting the mass,
  • or perhaps the long veil was considered coverage,
  • or maybe they simply were being nice to a bride on her wedding day.

I guess you can always ask your WC to confirm with the priest and then not have to worry about it.

WeddingMay- I live in San Diego, and the church I attend has very strict rules about dress as well.  In their guidelines they do not allow brides or bridesmaids to wear strapless or low cut dresses without something to cover them during the ceremony.  I am getting married in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, and know that most churches there are very conservative.  I have to wear a shrug because my dress is strapless.  I would definitely check with the priest at the church you are getting married in.  Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
