No one has booked! :(

I totally know what you mean!  It can be super frustrating.  We sent out our STD's May/June which included a booking deadline of mid August and NOBODY booked until literally the last day.  I was seriously bummed the couple of weeks before the deadline.   After a lot of thought I decided to send out a friendly reminder email to my guests and had my mom call a few people too.  After that people started inquiring and booking, it was like a light bulb turned on.  I think a lot of people look at the wedding date and think because it's so far away they don't need to do anything.  I actually needed to remind people that we had a website even though it was clearly listed on the STD....people must have skimmed it over and missed it.  I'm hoping this goes okay for you.  Right now, we still have people that are on the fence about booking because they want to see if they can get it cheaper.  This is still frustrating because I want to start putting items together like the OOT's, but I can't really do that until I get a final number.  Does it ever end?

brendee2005,

I know this is easier said than done but, don't fret!  I too sent  my STD's out in April and while most people were given a heads up way in advance of our DW wedding we still have some that say "I'm going, I'm gonna book".  Those Type A persons like myself when it comes to planning in advance along with those that stick to deadlines booked already, however; we still have those that 'will wait to see if they can get a better price" and or truly trying to determine if they can go.  If it wasn't for the state of the economy I would be pissed but what some could easily do then, may not be so easy now.

We are gearing up to send our Invites out this weekend with the BYT (Book Your Trip) notice of November 1.  even with that said, people already text, facebook or simply called and said I'm gonna be late booking but I'm going.

My FI suggest I call ppl and ask them to book. I don't feel as if I should be doing that, I have enough going without having to Chase ppl down to come to our wedding.

Thanks for listening. My FI thinks I'm being a bridezilla...whatever lol

TropicLover,

What I did to get started at least and to give myself a jump was to purchase things in 50's. Some items I have more of depending on how they were packaged.  I kept a list of where I purchased the items just in case I need more for those last minute persons. But the good thing about this is you can always sell things on this site as well as others.  I just sold extra oot items (even after keeping enough items to make 15 more sets) on the Moon Palace 2012 forum.  At least this way things are not at a complete financial loss.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice coconoir1908!  Purchasing in 50's does seem like the way to go.  I wasn't sure how likely it would be that other brides would purchase my leftover items, but from your story it sounds like it's doable :-)

eheee, brendee - I have to laugh. we have the same date!! and I, too, have been agonizing over this waiting game. I wanted to get invites out in Aug because our resort rates are going up in October. we even provided everyone with a site (booking.com) to encourage them to make a reservation now - even if they decide they can't make it later and need to cancel (there are no fees/penalties). and <sigh> not even my own brother has booked.

I asked my mom to get in touch with some family friends who we invited and haven't spoken with in awhile, and their feedback was that it's simply too soon to decide. after we heard different itierations of that several times, I realized that people would prefer to book closer to the date, so I changed my RSVP deadline from November 30 to March 1. that way, we still have a week to get the WC the information she needs, and people have the maximum amount of time to decide whether or not they'd like to attend (regardless of the hotel rate at that time - ha!)

I recently read somewhere that your wedding is only important to you, and while that isn't entirely true, I definitely think people have NO IDEA of the amount of time and energy we spend trying to make things just so for all of us. I think you and I will have to cheer each other on in the upcoming months, but it seems our best bet is definitely not to stress. that was the one regret of brides on here - sweating the guest list when they should have taken it more with a grain of salt.

best of luck to you, my cinco de mayo date twin!! : )

Hey brendee2005,

Did you by any chance create a private Facebook group for your guests? I created one for my wedding and it really did help engage people otherwise didn't have RSVP'ing high on the priority list. I tried to make it engaging by doing things like asking what people's favorite songs were (and then incorporating them in my master list which I gave to the DJ). It made it even more fun when people heard their exact favorite songs being played at the reception.

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
