We just had our wedding coordinator assigned to us!  Has anyone had Andrea as their WC before?

I had Andrea. She's new, although she told us that she had been there "a long time".  When I got into a dispute with them over the Akumal site because she was insisting that it had always looked the way it did, the manager told me that she had only been there a few months and probably never saw it look any different.

She did an OK job, but I wasn't thrilled with her. She tried to change every detail of the wedding on us, so you need to keep an eye on her emails. I requested the Jacuzzi pool, she booked us at one of the main pools. (The jacuzzi pool was totally the way to go, our guests were happy we insisted, it was pretty private and being able to dance in ankle deep water was a major plus). We asked for dinner from 6-8, she told us a week before the wedding that she had decided that 5pm was "better" even though we had a mariachi band booked from 5-545.  We made her change that back too. We had the reception booked from 8-11, she tried to push it to 8:20-11:20 because she insisted that it would take 20 minutes to walk the 100m or less to the site from the restaurant. I told her to put it back, that I didn't care if we were late arriving at the cocktails, but I would not be paying the after hours fee for going after 11pm.

My brother left the marriage certificate in the restaurant at dinner (I know. Worst man of honour ever lol) and Andrea said she had called and they didn't have it, but she would go down in person and talk to them. We waited two days and she never got back to us, so my brother went and asked and they had been holding it the whole time, I suspect she never asked them about it.

She did make things run smoothly during the wedding, though. Our transport to the site was on time, when we kicked off our shoes before the barefoot ceremony, she had an assistant bring our shoes down to the site for us. When we arrived at dinner she brought the manager over to discuss which guests had allergies (The restaurant still served my allergic guest the food she's allergic to, but we caught it. That wasn't Andrea's fault) We had a trolley waiting after dinner to take us to the poolside reception and she came back at the end of the evening to see us off.

Thanks @@Maggietron! I'm happy to hear you got your marriage certificate back - your poor brother must have felt so bad! Lol

She seems good so far, quick on emails and has honoured all our requests. But I will def keep an eye on her! Thanks for the heads up :)

@deecol  Dee you've probably already done this but because we were offsite and dealing with so many different details I made a binder of everything and took it with me. I had emails and photos all put together (not all quite as organized as I wanted but at least I had them) just so that I had the communications and details with me in case anything wasn't the way it was supposed to be.

I did the same.  I had a binder that I brought down with me.  I had everything printed off and extras of all the pictures printed so I could hand them to the coordinator at our meeting, just in case she misplaced hers.

@acw271011 @TATrisha Thanks ladies!  I have printing off emails so far but I will be sure to bring some copies of the pictures I've sent her as well.

Hi ladies! Less than 50 days for us :) I'm wondering if anyone has some cost savings ideas or if they were able to get a discount on anything, with the Canadian exchange rate being so awful, the price of our wedding has gone from $2800 to over $4100 Canadian. Although better than a traditional at home wedding I'd still like to stay under $4000 if I can, and I know there will be extra things added on when I get there too! Any suggestions are appreciated.

Wedding at Tulum

Extra fabric on Structure is $90 (not necessary but looks gorgeous - maybe I could bring something with me instead?)

Poolside reception is $250 + bar for 3 hours works out to be $841 = $1091 total

Speakers for reception $210

Unforgettable package $1665

All in USD.

Has anyone eaten at the Mediterrano restaurant?

We are staying in Coba and it was one of our options along with Pescado and Oasis for our rehearsal dinner.

@@emigrayson I believe @@TATrisha brought her own fabric?  Other than that I can't see where else you can trim.  We're asking fi we can pay in pesos because the dollar is so awful.  I haven't had a reply yet but that will definitely help if you can.

I did bring my own fabric and it definitely didn't cost me $90, but it added hassle.  At the time of my wedding I was one of the first people to ask for fabric at the site, so having them supply it wasn't an option.  Had it been, I would have skipped the hassle and just used theirs.

Really, I don't think there is much you'll be able to cut out because it sounds like you have a wonderful wedding planned!

Hey! My understanding is that the speakers only cost $70/hour but the DJ costs $210/hour. They may cut some costs if you just have the speakers and not the DJ? Just a thought, I'm still contemplating this option as well.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
