OFFICIAL Gran Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Thread

This was an amazing thread - I can't begin to imagine how much time this took you!!

I am getting married at the Akumal Hammocks location on March 30, 2012.

The ONLY thing I am trying to find that I haven't seen yet are pictures of the Mayan Blessing.
Looking through the internet at random pictures they go from pretty tame to a total production.. Does anyone out there have pictures - so I know what to expect for our Mayan Blessing. I have to admit I thought it sounded amazing and went for that before really researching.

I too would love to know if there are any up to date maps that I can include for my guest.

Thanks again everyone!!

I'm glad you're finding the thread useful!

I will be at the resort in January.  I'll try and see if I can spot a Mayan ceremony and take some pictures for you.

Tlseege,

THANK YOU for taking the time out to create this thread!!! As I'm sure you know, it's like pulling teeth trying to get a quick response from anyone at the resort and you have answered SO many of my burning questions. I am staying at the GBP Coba and getting married on October 12, 2012 at the Tulum gazebo. I cannot wait!!!

As any normal bride, I just want everything to run smoothly; however, I am a little concerned of the additional cost and overall flow of the wedding. For all the brides that opt for the restaurant dinner and poolside reception, was there a big gap from the time the wedding ceremony started until it was time for the reception? I am tentatively scheduled for the ceremony to begin at 4pm and I would like for our dinner reception to be private, but I understand that the resort cannot guarantee this since reservations start at 6pm. I also read in another thread that several brides pool reception was scheduled from 8-11pm. The times just seem so far apart.

My FI and I are expecting 60+ guest and have decided on the Symbolic Remember package which I am finding out through your thread only accomodates 24 people. I am assuming it's an additional $25-30pp for the remaining guest. Do you know if the resort will allow you to account the dinner reception as an 'a la carte' dinner so that we won't have to pay extra? Also, the prices for the poolside reception open bar just seem outrageous ($17pp, per hour) considering this is an all-inclusive resort...was there a nearby bar for guest to get drinks?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

You're so welcome!  I'm glad that I can help out!

You use an ala carte dinner for your guests if you have the dinner in the restaurants.  It won't necessarily be private but not many brides have complained about it being crowded or not feeling intimate.

As for the drinks, that's not really what you're paying for.  You're paying for the dedicated staff and service since it's a private bar that wouldn't normally be open.  However most of us went with the cheaper bar option as there is a bar nearby and most guests didn't want anything special for those few hours anyways.

Hello

I am also having the symbolic ceremony and I haven't been told anything about only having 24 guests.  My WC told me I could have up to 45 people at the gazebo then I just have to pay an extra $8pp over 35 for my 2 hour pool side reception (we are going for the margarita, pina coloda, beer and sparkling wine bar).  We are also going for dinner at gran tortuga, which will count as one of our guests al la carte   My ceremony is at 2, then dinner at 6, reception at 8.  If your ceremony is at 4 you won't have a big gap between the events.  By the time you take pictures you might have time to freshen up then go for dinner.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
