What currency did everyone bring with them? We are traveling from the UK and unsure whether to take pesos or dollars as I have heard they like both?

Also do the wedding planners usually take a long time to reply to emails? We are getting married in Akumal on 7th May and I had a email confirming the wedding then one later asking lots of questions about guests ect but I have asked a few times for information on the flowers but they haven't replied yet?

Hi ladies! I have been a lurker on this website for some time but now am finally engaged! He proposed on Tuesday night actually while we were at Coba beach at the this very resort... It was so perfect because we love this resort & Mexico :)

No date yet, thinking next March/April at the Tulum part of the resort. Can't wait! 15 minutes before he proposed, we were walking out of the Don Pablo a la carte and there was a wedding going on.. it looked awesome!

Congrats to the bride-to-bes.

Jenniferlaura - I'm also from the UK and have been told by my travel agent that fewer and fewer hotels are taking US dollars and to use the peso only.

I was told to contact my WC (Eugenia) 3 months before the wedding, which for you would be Feb. My sister got married in Barbados, and she made most of the decisions once she arrived at the resort. They sorted guests and outfits, then decoration and photos, etc was decided when she had her face-to-face meeting the day after she arrived.

Hello everyone

I am brand new to this website. I am getting married at the Bahia Pricipe Akumal site on August 16th 2014. We just booked everything and have not been in contact with anyone from the resort yet. I was hoping some of you ladies could answer my questions. We booked the Unforgettable Package and I know what the package entails, but how does the reception work? After the wedding I know through the unforgettable package there is a dinner. It says up to 30 guest. If we have more guest than that do we pay extra for them to eat? I am brand new at this and any information is fantastic! Thanks ladies!!

Hi ladies-

Also new to the site/forums here...We are getting married at the Akumal location on July 4th, 2014 and staying at Sian Kaan.

I was also wondering how the "reception" works here.. is the dinner included in the wedding packages the "reception"?

Does anyone know about fireworks or sparkler use on the beach there??

Love this feed, by the way :) Great info!!!!! :o)

Welcome!

The dinner is the reception.  If you'd like it private you can have a poolside dinner with what they call the theme dinners.  That is about $50 per person.

For dancing afterwards, you can go to any lobby bar or the discotech (opens at 12) for free or you can pay for a private poolside dance.

No burning is allowed so no fireworks, sparklers, or lanterns allowed

One of my guests wanted to know if the resort has shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc in the rooms and replenishes this as needed? I am assuming they do but wanted to confirm that with someone who has been to the resort before.

For the ceremony, do they play music while your guests are coming and getting settled? I have a cd I'm bringing that includes a song for the bridesmaids walk, for me, for our signing and for when they pronounce us as married. Should I bring another cd with instrumental stuff for when the guests are coming though?

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
