OFFICIAL Gran Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Thread

Hey,

So I just want to say that this site is fantastic and loaded with useful information, thank you so much for everyones help so far.

I do have a question though,  I am getting married November 2013 at the GBP Akumal, as of now we really haven't done a whole lot of interacting with Eugenia our wedding coordinator, but recently I started talking to her about our photos.  Our close friends have a time share in the Mayan and said that they would come do our photos as our wedding gift, which I didn't think would be a big deal.  Eugenia said that we could get them a $90 day pass and they could come to the wedding but that they couldn't take our pictures because Arrecife Studio has exclusivity rights.  This feels like a complete ploy to get us to spend money on their overpriced and from what I've read, intrusive and poor quality photgrapher.  I told Eugenia that they can take their 10 photos but we never had any intention of going with their studio, and I wish I would have known from the begining that this was going to be an issue.  I have looked through all our booking e-mails and see no where where it says this, in all honestly the paperwork has been very broad.

Is there any way around this, and are they really going to stop our friends at our wedding from taking photos?

Thanks!

Sara

Hi, My name is Sara, my fiancé Mike and I are getting married at the GBP Akumal this November. We haven't talked to our wedding planner Eugenia much since we booked, so I decided to contact her about our photos. Our good friends have a time share in Mexico and as our wedding gift they offered to be our photographer. When I email Eugenia and told her she said they could come to our wedding using a $90 day pass but that the studio has exclusivity rights. I think this is a complete ploy to get us to spend money on their photographer, which we never had any intentions of doing. I have went through all of our emails fom booking until now and nothing told us we were locked to the resort studio. Our friends offering to do our photos was a big reason why we chose the Mayan. Is there any way around this? Are they going to stop them from taking our photos? Thanks for your help, Sara

Has anyone received the new pricing for the 2013-2014 wedding packages? I still haven't heard from Eugenia and we're just wondering how much they went up this year. Thanks!!!

Hiya

Not sure if you have been on the Bahia Principe Website - there are pretty good photos on there, these are the links with the 3 different locations, if you click on each of them then click on the photos in turn you are given a 360 degree view of each point - pretty good

http://www.bahia-principe.com/en/hotels/riviera-maya/resort-tulum/map - Tulum Gazebo wedding location is on the furthest right of this picture

http://www.bahia-principe.com/en/hotels/riviera-maya/resort-akumal/map - Akumal wedding location is roughly on the large beach area in front of the swimming pool that is on the left side of this picture. Coba is the area in the background - it is central and doesnt have it's own beach area

Good luck with your selection, we get married at Tulum Gazebo in 16 days time thewave.gif

Hi Lori,

Hope this helps. This is what Jazmin sent me for my wedding in November as well.

When I was there last the dock was destroyed by the hurricane, so I'm not sure how it was rebuilt (or IF it was rebuilt), but it definitely wasn't big enough to hold a wedding.  and it's REALLY REALLY REALLY crowded right there.  Lots of sunbathers and also lots of swimmers.

Hi girls! I'm getting married in February and have 80 people with deposits down!! So excited! Can't believe the turnout! I initially wanted to have a poolside dinner but now that I'm having so many people I figured there might be a chance we could rent out one of the restaurants. Does anyone know anything about this?

They will not allow you to rent out the restaurants, however with that many people, you'll fill a good portion of it so it might not be a problem anyways.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
