The hammock location decorating is actually up for debate at the moment.  I was one of the first brides to bring my own fabric... and it was free for them to set it up, however there is a recent report that they are charging $150 to decorate the area for you.  So if you hear from your coordinator, please verify!

Just to add to that, she said 150 if I supplied my own material. I have been told 350 if I don't bring my own material. Yes, if anyone else hears otherwise please let me know as I feel I am being over charged for no reason. The wedding coordinator has yet to respond to me questioning this charge

A question for all booking from the UK. We will use either thomas cook or thompson. I have also been speaking to a lady from perfect weddings abroad and basically she has told me that you DO NOT have to take any translated documents for a LEGAL wedding @ the Grand Bahia if you have never been married before or changed your name?

obviously saving you the translation costs which i have been told are anywhere from £450! has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,

We are doing a vow renewal on 12th Sept 2014, we're staying at Sian Kaan and they have offered us either Tulum or Akumal beach locations for the Mayan ceremony. We're from the UK and booked our holiday with Thomson, but is arranging the ceremony directly with the resort. We initially arranged it with Linda, just by emailing the email address on the website and they put us in touch with the right people. Our WC is Eugenia, but we were told to contact her 3 months before the ceremony which is June.

So far, we have a date (12/09/14) and a time (3pm), which may change. The location we've selected is Akumal Hammock location, it will just be the 2 of us as we are having the wedding we wanted but never got. Our wedding (6yrs ago) was much more of a family affair than we wanted. We are celebrating our 10th anniversary together and decided after we booked the holiday to make a bigger celebration.

Hi Bahia brides! We are booked for November 6th,2014 on akumal beach!

Just wondering a few things: did any of you do programs? Did you bring down table decorations?does anyone know if the resort provides paper lanterns with lights for your poolside reception?what other things did you bring with you?how did you get everything down there?

Thanks ladies!

Welcome!

I did programs attached to raffia fans.  My guests appreciated having a self made breeze during our wedding :)

For table decorations I brought down table runners and votive candles.  The candles were by far the biggest waste EVER.  I had an outdoor dinner and reception by the pool and the wind blew the candles out immediately.

The paper lanterns I believe you have to bring yourself, but they'll set up.

And I brought everything down there in a big suitcase and then on the way home I put my wedding dress in that suitcase.

Trisha,

Thanks so much for the photograph tours of the resort. Any chance you will be able to do one for Sian Kaan?

Also, wondered if you have photographed any Mayan Ceremonies from the resort? I have found a few on youTube, but not any from the resort.

Many thanks for your fountain of knowledge.

We will be at the resort btw 7th Sept - 21st Sept, with our ceremony on 12th Sept.

I actually will be at the resort the first week of May and I have tentative plans to meet someone who is staying at the Sian Kaan so that I can indeed do a photo tour of that resort!

I have not yet photographed a Mayan Ceremony.  I think they are a little less popular right now, so I haven't had the opportunity yet.

I have also added you to the bridal roll call.  You're our first September 12th bride, but we have two the day before you!  How fun!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
