Hey girls! I am planning on getting married in 2013 but am having a really hard time finding a hotel that I like. I've never heard being able to rent a villa for your wedding but from reading your posts this is more what im looking for than a hotel! could you guys answer some questions for me

1) do you plan your wedding yourself or is it possible to get a wedding planner to help accomidate with arranging a venue/flowers/dj ect.

2) what are you girls planning on doing for decorations

3) if you have a large group is it better to rent different villas instead of the hotel (in your opinion)

4) what are the benefits of doing the villa's over a hotel

we are planning do have 70-50 guests

Hi Justineheart,

We got married at a villa in the Dominican Republic.  It was the best decision we ever made.  We preferred a villa because we wanted something more private, to ourselves.  We did not want to be arm to arm in the pool at the resort with the large, party crowd (who was not our family).  We wanted a small intimate gathering but wanted all of the amenities of a larger resort.  We found it with the villa we chose - Villa Flor de Cabrera.  The owners of the villa are Americans and are really nice and honest.  Our wedding was planned with their on-site coordinator, via phone, email, and skype leading up to the wedding.  I sent photos of what I wanted for flowers, cake, centerpieces, hair, etc. and everything was exactly as I sent the photos.

We had a rehearsal dinner with a pig roast and bonfire on the beach.  We had a ceremony with an officiant, guitar player, photographer, hair stylist, flowers, centerpieces, favors, DJ, etc.-- all planned through the villa.  We didn't do too many decorations (only table centerpieces and favors and cake) because we wanted to take advantage of the natural scenery.  The villa staff put up lights on trees to give your photos that sparkly feel.

The villa we rented has 10 bedrooms (of varying sizes, bed combinations) so we were able to use it for the family and wedding party and friends stayed in a neighboring villa (within walking distance).  They pretty much stayed with us all day and went to their villa to sleep so it was great.  We also had a small boutique hotel with rooms reserved just in case someone preferred that option.

The villa is right on the beach, has a pool/hot tub, private chef, hostess, bar tender, etc.  so everything you need pretty much!  They wait on you like you're the only one there (oh yeah--you are!) and have the whole place to yourself!

Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions, I'd be happy to help!  I know I was uncertain and would be glad to share any of my stuff (bottle invitations, passports, wine charm cards for favors, etc.) if it would be helpful. I also have an electronic album if you're interested, just message me and I'll send you the link.

I'm getting married in Costa Rica this summer, but going through all the travel details with guests now.  We have a large wedding (in terms of destination weddings) - 70+ people, and are heading to Manuel Antonio.  We, the wedding party, and many of our guests, are planning to stay at the La Reserva Villas (casa paraiso, romantica, reserva & feliz), but they are out of the way and not near many restaurants or hotels.  If I was starting over, I'd stay in Tuelmar, where there are bungalows and villas; that ways guests could be close, but still have shuttle access to the beach and nearby restaurants.  I'm still looking forward to Reserva as all the villas look amazing - just hoping that they aren't too inconvenient!  I'd have also considered Punta de Vista a bit more - once everybody splits the cost, it's not that much more than the other expensive villas.  Just wouldn't want to have the wedding there, as I'd be afraid some people would just wander the villa and miss the party.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
