Krys,

Thanks as always for your sound advice!  I appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule to help me.  I emailed Sheque today and hope to hear back soon.  I want to get my hair and make-up done at the same place so that's why i opted to call her instead of April's.  I called Maxime yesterday and they were very helpful as well.  Sheque's website was very helpful too!  Thanks again and stay safe with TS Maia on the horizon.

Best,

This is copied from a post I submitted a while back on T&C Make-up and hair:

here is some info on the regular hair and make up people we see on island

There are 3 ladies that we see on a regular basis doing hair. For large weddings they work together on some occasions as well.

In no particular order....

Maximes....649-946-5093 Geraldine does hair and Ann (from Beauty and Beach day spa located in the shop) does Make-up.  contact info is posted above

April's Place - Hair - Nails - Skin care on Providenciales Turks and Caicos Islands 649-941-3993 April does hair.  She doesn't do make up.

Briget Wildt...bwildt@tciway.tc does hair (use to own Maximes and April worked for her when she first came on island, she worked from home after her son was born but now that he has just turned 11, she's opened up Tangled Hair Salon in Ports of Call

Sheque
(649) 245-5241 Sheque Does hair and make up

Full disclaimer here: April does my hair and has for years, Ann does my manicures and pedicures on island and I don't wear any make up. However....Geraldine and Bridget do the hair of many of my friends and Bridget does my hair if Aprils off island (and Geraldine does April's hair...LOL it's a VERY small island) I have seen loads of photos of Sheques work and she does great work as well.

We work with all of these ladies, professionally and know them personally. For make up, Ann and Sheque both enhance someones beauty, not take over and take a life of it's own.

For hair, they are all good and not over the top. They all work with a ton of different types of hair on island (the country's population is very international) as well as having to keep up with latest trends and styles. April goes every year to the international hair/and trade show...my sister lives in Atlanta and whenever she visits she books ahead to get April to cut her hair...I know others who plan vacations to get a touch up by Maxime or Geraldine.

It's not uncommon to have all of them working together with large bridal parties, they are all friends and very good to each other.

Additionally it's a SMALL island and if you don't do good hair and make up, you won't last a season here.  All of these women have been in business minimum 5-7 years with most in business here more than 10 years.

All of these ladies have very established clientele on island, so depending on when your dates are,  If they are coming to you, which involves packing up and travel time etc, vs coming to the salon where they can book you and other clients in before and after, they will charge accordingly.

Hope that helps, our blog usually mentions who did hair and make up for a wedding if you want to do a search for their particular names and the wedding will pop up!

Just an update to pricing... Shenique charged me $300 for hair and makeup for the bride and $250 for each other bridal party person/MOB. Our makeup (except for my moms.. orange lipstick was not so hot on her among other things) was all fabulous. The hair was.. eh.. my bridal party all had plain updos which were fine, but not worth $250. Her personality didn't exactly add anything to the 'getting ready experience' either.

Really? I met her last month and she was awesome! Everyone recommended her as the top person on island. My mom and I had a trial and we booked her for my wedding next year. I picked up a Turks & Caicos magazine with Donna Karen on the cover and she was credited for doing her hair and makeup that put me even more at ease. I'm so exited about my wedding. I'm thinking about having a band in addition to the DJ. Does anybody know of a good local band?

Using Shenique was probably the most difficult decision I made leading up to the wedding. I had such a hard time justifying the expense for hair and make up. I am very low maintenance from day to day and knew I wanted a carefree, beachy wedding look- not too made up and not out of place on the sand and in the sun. I got some good advice from a stylist here in Nashville, "You don't want to look back at your wedding pictures and ask yourself, "who is that???" I considered working with my Nashville hairdresser (Candace Bradley) and local makeup artist (Jaiya Wendell) and having them teach me how to get myself ready since I was not in a financial position to take them with me (so sad). Much as I love them both and have absolute confidence in their ability, I was not able to get myself motivated enough to practice on myself and who really wants the added stress and responsibility of creating their own look on their wedding day?

I looked into other make up and hair options in Provo. I felt that using a local professional who is used to the effect of tropical sun, sweat and humidity on hair and makeup would be a wise way to go. They are used to creating a look that can withstand it all and last all day and into the night. There are several excellent local professionals but Shenique seems to be the only one who does both hair and makeup herself. While I could have saved a bit of money by going to 2 separate hair and makeup salons, I did not want to be out running errands on my wedding day just to save a few dollars. Had I paid the separate outcall fees to have both come to me, the money would have worked out about the same as using Shenique. Trust me, I worked out many possible scenarios. In the end, I decided that it was worth it to have someone come to me in the comfort of my Grace Bay Suite and get pampered while surrounded my friends and family and enjoying my fabulous view. Looking at pictures and reading reviews, I felt that on the island Shenique was the "go to" artist and when it came down to it, I wanted the best.

My biggest concern was that because Shenique works with a team of artists, I might not actually end up with her for my big day. I believe that while this is a minor possibility, it is a very rare occurance. She often uses her team for wedding parties but came alone since it was just me. As I was not in a financial position to pay for hair and makeup for my bridesmaids, they chose to go a less expensive route- many of them doing their own and each other's hair and makeup. They brought their dresses and makeup to my suite and we all got ready together. I loved being able to relax and enjoy the morning with my family and best friends.

My initial contact with Shenique was very prompt and professional. We emailed a bit and locked down the date. As the wedding got closer I created a pinterest board with the looks I liked and wanted to share with her. I wanted to wear my hair long but pulled back and swept to the side. I made a hair comb out of a broach and made a long veil to wear for the ceremony but take out for the reception. Shenique arrived on time and armed with everything she needed to make me fabulous. She worked on my hair first then did my makeup. She was very patient with the many distractions and interruptions that occur on a wedding day. She tailored a look for me that was exactly what I had in mind and I felt like the best possible version of myself- but still myself.

Looking at our wedding pictures and video, I know I made the right choice in using her. There are spots in the videos where I can see the sweat glisten on my back but my face and hair held up through it all. I used some Clean and Clear blotting sheets before the reception to take care of some shine but that is the only touching up I did. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Shenique agreed to have come back the next day and do it all again. After my initial reluctance to use a hair/makeup artist at all, I actually did it twice! My husband was adament that he not see me before the ceremony so in  order to get all of the pictures I wanted we compromised by arranging a second day with the photographer. I am so very glad we did because we were able to go to various sites around the island and some of those pictures ended up my favorites. It was well worth the added expense! The second day I felt much more calm and relaxed and enjoyed more conversation with Shenique as she worked. Because she had just done everything the previous day, she was able to work very efficently. We got some fantastic shots that second day and I am so grateful Shenique was available for both.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
