Hi everyone! My name is Emily and I am recently engaged to my fiance Kasey. We are planning a June 2012 wedding and I have become obsessed with finding out information about cancun destination weddings and trying to learn how everything works.  After paying for ourselves, which is approx. $3000, I really don't want to pay more for a wedding AND a reception.  I think we will opt for the free wedding, I am having my photographer friend take pics in exchange for the cost of her trip.  As for the reception, why can't everyone just go to one of the restaurants for dinner and then go out after?  Does anyone know if a paid reception is required?

Congratulations and welcome to the forums! There are so many ways to go about saving money on your wedding at an all inclusive. You can do anything you want and if heading to a restaurant for dinner and to the disco after is what you want to do... then do it!

You can do whatever you would like for your wedding!! From the sounds of it you should definitely stay at an all-inclusive resort that way after your ceremony you can all go out for dinner at one of the restaurants at the resorts and it will be already paid for!! Most resorts host "party type nights" This is where they have a block party or dancing. See if you can coincide your wedding on a night this will be going on.. so after dinner you can continue the party!!

Hi Emmalou. I agree wit the other comments. I had my DW at an all-inclusive and the majority of the other weddings that took place there were the beach ceremony, dinner at one of the all-inclusive restaurant on the resort, and then joining the rest of the hotel guests by the bar to dancing along with the DJ.

 

I did this for my welcome dinner, the night before my wedding. I literally had a moment when I thought to myself, "Oh no! Tonight is turning out to be too much fun! What if it outshines my reception tomorrow?!"

 

So go for it if that's what you want! As Sllefebvr suggested, I'd also recommend talking to the resort to make sure that a DJ will be scheduled for the night of your wedding. Sometimes the resorts have other forms of nighttime entertainment like live shows.

I think it really depends what resort you are getting married at and how they do their weddings.  I am getting married in jamaica at the gran bahia principe and for the reception you have your dinner in one of the restraunts and then after you do whatever you wish.  Thats partly the reason we chose that resort as we didnt want a formal reception and just wanted it to be relaxed and carefree! Also, they provide a free wedding.  I would recommending finding resorts that offer you free weddings to keep costs down if thats what you are worried about.

Congrats and Welcome.  You can make the wedding as extravagant as you want, but this forum has great ideas to keep the costs down.  You will be addicted to it before you know it!

Hey...I having a beach ceremony at 1:00pm.  I hope to take pics while my guests break and rest up for dinner which will be at one of the all-inclusive restaurants (semi-private).  I am having a reception (small w/about 30 ppl) no need for a DJ, MC, etc but I will definitely rent a small space for this (cake cutting, first dance, etc).  Then to the resort's nightclub we go!!! I am learning you can def make things as extravagant as you want them.  Happy planning!
