Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My future hubby and i have looked at some many different locations, types of honeymoons and are currently looking at Mexico specifically riviera maya looks amazing. Main problems is mosquitos, i get eaten alive normally i wouldnt mind that much but tend to react badly to the bits abroad and dont want to spoil my honeymoon. Has anyone ever been to this area, we would be going early august?

Would really appreciate the help!!

I've just returned from the Mayan Riviera in early February. I'm not sure if misquitos are seasonal there but we did not have any issues with bugs at all! I'd go back myself in a heartbeat, I hope you enjoy!

Last year I went to the Mayan (Grand Sirenis) in mid to late August. There are tiny little mosquitoes, but not that many... We found that there was usually a breeze, which kept them away. I may have gotten bit once or twice the whole week. Just bring some mosquito repellent; you should be fine. Have a great trip!

I have been there twice and I can't remember having any issues with mosquitos (Your question made me think about it). Bring a repellent just to be on the safe side. Good luck

Most resorts spray for insects.  I've been going to the Mayan Riviera every year for the past 8 years and never been bitten until this year when we went into a jungle to do our TTD in a cenote.

Hello All!

I was married in the Riviera Maya and have been there multiple times. I've never had an issue with mosquitos like I have on other islands like Aruba and St. Lucia and even as far as Asia (Thailand, China, Vietnam). I practically felt like I rolled myself in honey (on my honeymoon) I was bit SO MANY TIMES! This is something pretty common though in lush, tropical areas.

I tend to be bitten wherever I go but can truthfully say I've never had an issue there in the Riviera Maya! If you're looking for feedback on some hotels, I've written a few reviews here to give some ideas! We were married at Excellence Riviera Maya but did our Trash the Dress session in Playa del Carmen. We spent that time at two hotels to try different experiences, i.e. Condo Hotel vs. a boutique hotel.

Let me know if you have any questions and enjoy!

El Taj Oceanfront & Beachside Condos = awesome home away from home!

Le Reve Hotel & Spa: Where Heaven Kisses Earth! = SUPER romantic!

+1... I have visited the area in April 2009 and May 2011 and only got 1 bite between both trips and didn't take any preventative measures. I forgot to pack repellent, but obviously didn't need it. I too have really bad reactions to mosquitoes so its something that I pay attention to.

We've been to the MR three times now...I never have issues but the first two trips, my husband had bites that developed into HUGE welts. We made a trip to the pharmacy to make sure we had a kit to deal with the issues as they came up during the two weeks we would be there for our wedding. She recommended that rather than dealing with bites after the fact, he take an allergy tablet (I believe it was the week prior to leaving and while we were in Mexico, but check with your own pharmacist about this) so that in case he was bitten, he didn't develop as severe a reaction. The bonus to this was that he didn't have to worry about not drinking alcohol like you would if you had to take Benadryl or something like that. Between that and making sure he used spray when he was in the jungle, he was totally fine this time around.

Great idea on the allergy tablets!

Hi!!!if mosquitoes are a problem, you can find smells like lavender or basil to infuse your room. I really recommend the Riviera, it's a paradise!!!

    • Digital Lamination Films The global thermal film laminating machines market is anticipated to grow on the backdrop of growth in applications such as advertising, and photography, among others. Thermal film laminating machines are used in places such as schools, offices, and copy centers. The thermal film laminating machines might face some turbulence during the forecast period, due to the growing market for digital printing. Manufacturers of Lamination Film machines across the world aim to enhance the technology integration in these machines. To be able to expand their customer base, thermal laminating film machine manufacturers must integrate a user-friendly control interface. All new versions of thermal film laminating machines keep end user convenience at the epicenter. The only major hurdle in the path is the growth in penetration of digital printing in the market. The Asia Pacific region is expected to be the fastest growing market for thermal film laminating machines market. This is attributed to the growth in the number of work places and educational institutions in the place. Advertising and photography are expected to be the key contributors to the growth of the thermal laminating film market in the Asia Pacific region during the forecast period. In regions such as North America and Western Europe, the advent of digital technology has led to decline in the size of the printing market. http://www.chinathermalfilm.com/bopp-matte-thermal-film-products-i-14.html
    • Hello Everyone, I am new here, I heard about this site from a friend of mine that had a destination wedding back in 2012 which was beautiful.  I am leaning towards the DR if I find a place that has all that I am looking for if not Mexico is another great option. Thinking of May 2020 if that is enough time to plan this! I like modern looks, all inclusive for sure.  I definitely want the beach very very close to the pools and rooms, a swim up bar is a must.  I really like the idea of the swim ups in the rooms if possible.  I am going to have friends that bring their kids so it can't be adult only.  I do want to get married on the beach which seems like most of the all inclusive resorts offer. My friend got married at the SENSATORI AZUL BEACH RESORT RIVIERA MAYA and it had all I would want in a resort if anyone has stayed there and has any advice. Thanks for all the help ahead of time.   M&B

    • They forgot the wedding cake topper   Okay, so no big deal - just a once in a lifetime moment. The upsetting part is the wedding coordinator, Dionne, did not seem at all concerned about the mistake. The only reason we got an apology was because we happened to run into her the night before we left. Our wedding was on Saturday we left Wednesday morning. We were told we could escalate our concern to Riu corporate, the wedding coordinator doesn’t have a supervisor on site. Riu corporate said they did their best and apologized. Brides, go to Jamaica, get married, but do yourself a favor and do not go to a Riu resort, especially not Riu Negril. I am certain there are other resorts that would have been in touch immediately and tried to make up for their mistake. Not Riu.
