Mexico! To go or not to go? Help

Hi All,

 

My future hubby and i have looked at some many different locations, types of honeymoons and are currently looking at Mexico specifically riviera maya looks amazing. Main problems is mosquitos, i get eaten alive normally i wouldnt mind that much but tend to react badly to the bits abroad and dont want to spoil my honeymoon. Has anyone ever been to this area, we would be going early august?

I've just returned from the Mayan Riviera in early February. I'm not sure if misquitos are seasonal there but we did not have any issues with bugs at all! I'd go back myself in a heartbeat, I hope you enjoy!

Last year I went to the Mayan (Grand Sirenis) in mid to late August. There are tiny little mosquitoes, but not that many... We found that there was usually a breeze, which kept them away. I may have gotten bit once or twice the whole week. Just bring some mosquito repellent; you should be fine. Have a great trip!

I have been there twice and I can't remember having any issues with mosquitos (Your question made me think about it). Bring a repellent just to be on the safe side. Good luck

Most resorts spray for insects.  I've been going to the Mayan Riviera every year for the past 8 years and never been bitten until this year when we went into a jungle to do our TTD in a cenote.

Hello All! 

 

I was married in the Riviera Maya and have been there multiple times. I've never had an issue with mosquitos like I have on other islands like Aruba and St. Lucia and even as far as Asia (Thailand, China, Vietnam). I practically felt like I rolled myself in honey (on my honeymoon) I was bit SO MANY TIMES! This is something pretty common though in lush, tropical areas.  

 

I tend to be bitten wherever I go but can truthfully say I've never had an issue there in the Riviera Maya! If you're looking for feedback on some hotels, I've written a few reviews here to give some ideas! We were married at Excellence Riviera Maya but did our Trash the Dress session in Playa del Carmen. We spent that time at two hotels to try different experiences, i.e. Condo Hotel vs. a boutique hotel.

I have been there twice and I can't remember having any issues with mosquitos (Your question made me think about it). Bring a repellent just to be on the safe side. Good luck

+1... I have visited the area in April 2009 and May 2011 and only got 1 bite between both trips and didn't take any preventative measures. I forgot to pack repellent, but obviously didn't need it. I too have really bad reactions to mosquitoes so its something that I pay attention to.

We've been to the MR three times now...I never have issues but the first two trips, my husband had bites that developed into HUGE welts. We made a trip to the pharmacy to make sure we had a kit to deal with the issues as they came up during the two weeks we would be there for our wedding. She recommended that rather than dealing with bites after the fact, he take an allergy tablet (I believe it was the week prior to leaving and while we were in Mexico, but check with your own pharmacist about this) so that in case he was bitten, he didn't develop as severe a reaction. The bonus to this was that he didn't have to worry about not drinking alcohol like you would if you had to take Benadryl or something like that. Between that and making sure he used spray when he was in the jungle, he was totally fine this time around.

Hi!!!if mosquitoes are a problem, you can find smells like lavender or basil to infuse your room. I really recommend the Riviera, it's a paradise!!!
