Packing all the stuff for the bags

Recommended Posts

OK I'm sure somebody has asked this before but what are you all planning on doing about getting the stuff down to your destination for your wedding. FI and I are going to Punta Cana for 2 weeks (4 days prior to the wedding and 7 days after) so we will be packing a lot of clothes besides the supplies for the bags. On top of that I am making my own seashell bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages for the wedding so those need to come along with us as well. We are planning on using space saver bags (the kind you vacuum the air out of) for our clothes & hoping we can fit all of our clothes into 1 suitcase then use the other suitcase for supplies. In my quest to figure out the best way to go about this I figured I would check in with all the wonderful ladies on the board who have already helped me out so much. So how about ladies, how are getting all your stuff to your destination?

Thanks!

Melissa

I'm starting to panic since we leave tomorrow morning!

Our OOT bag stuff all fit in one carryon.  I'm PRAYING that nothing gets confiscated.  There are no liquids, but there are snacks...I know I have read and re-read the policies on prohibited items, but I'm paranoid!

I also dont have receipts for jackshit.

I sent my raffia fans with my sister who is taking a bag with diapers, so I dont have to worrry about that until they dont show up in Punta Cana!

This is one thing that is driving me crazy also!! I am also getting shell bouquets also for me and all of my girls but I think I am going to make all of them take their own bouquet because there is no way that I am going to be able to carry down all eight... I hate that the resort will not let us ship things ahead of time. I understand where they are coming from because if they let every bride take things down then they would have a whole ballroom filled with bridal things...

I'm getting married at Dreams Punta Cana Resort and they say that you can ship stuff down ahead of time but that they are not responsible if things get "lost". I would hate to ship stuff down then get there for my wedding and find out that things are missing. That would be awful. On top of that the cost to ship the stuff is more than what the airlines would charge for us to bring on an extra bag. So I guess if worse comes to worse we will just have to pay the additional fee to the airlines. As far as my shell bouquets I only have to make 2 of those (one for me & one for my MOH) since I'm not having a full bridal party. My mom is going to bring mine & my MOH will take hers. I will probably take the bouts & corsages w/me though...if I have room! LOL.

As of right now I am planning on just shipping my stuff down. I hadn't thought of checking an additional bag! I'll have to look into the fees--plus that would give me extra space to do some shopping!! :)

Hey everyone!

I'm way to scared to ship everything.  We're getting married in Mexico and I've heard that many shipped items get stuck in customs.  With my job I do a lot of shipping between Canada and the US and little things like sunglasses can take forever to clear customs.  I would hate for my OOT loot to get lost or worse never make it into the country.

For use we're going to pack it all.  Ya we'll have extra bags, but I plan on distributing them along with the corresponding receipts to a few guests.  We'll just pick up the extra baggage tab....ugh definitely not looking forward to the final $ amount.

We have 33 guests and we actually have pretty big stuff.. Beach towels, stadium cups, aluminum water bottles... So we have 2 boxes and 2 duffle bags. I also did silk flowers so those are in a box with the flower girl basket and ring bearer pillow. In my other box is all the larger items stated previously. In our duffle we put our fragile stuff like our custom cake topper, toasting flutes and the flutes/pilsners we had made for the wedding party. My suggestion if you can is to give one or two items to other people. We are giving each parent a box since they both are only taking one suitcase. Then 2 of my bridesmaids are taking a duffle for us. Since I have to take my wedding dress I didn't want an extra carry on. My fiancé is taking all the snacks in his carry on (chips, granola bars, candy). We offered to pay the $15 for each additional checked bag to my parents and bridesmaids but they declined, so I'll try to sneak it in there somehow, lol.

i've decided to hand deliver the OOT bags to those who live locally, ship OOT bags to those out of town guests and then hand deliver the other bags to our east coast guests while in town over labor day weekend.

i'm hoping having the OOT bags beforehand will excite our guests and allow them to 'enjoy' a taste of what's in store in jamaica plus, i'll personally avoid undue stress about shipping, extra bags, etc.  the items i'm taking with me to jamaica include decorations and some other guest info like a  welcome kit which will include the resort map, a sewing kit, itinerary at a glance, etc.  all lightweight items that should pack in carry-on or checked bags, easily.

good luck and happy planning, ladies!!

My Fi is usually a really light packer (thank goodness!), so I plan on using his suitcase for all our wedding stuff.  That way we wont need to bring an extra bag at all!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
