"First Look" Photos

Recommended Posts

I had never heard of first look photos before this thread. I fell in love with the idea. Yet after discussing it with my FI, we decided we didn't want to spoil that jaw-droppping walking down the aisle moment. So, I found another way to do it!

We hired a photographer (kelley)  for our engaement pics and AHR. We have a different suit/ wedding dress for AHR so we can do it then : )

All of the flowergirls and moms will be at my house getting hair and make-up done, as well as myself, while Kelley takes pics. My FI will be getting ready at his brothers house. We are having a photoshoot before the AHR with flowergirls, their parents, and our close family members. I have taken into consideration what others have said about not having other ppl standing around watching the first look moment as it makes it awkward. So I think the plan will be for me to leave with Kelley to go to the photoshoot venue before all others show up. My FI will meet us there for the magical moment. Then, we will finish the shoot and all head to the reception together.

I'm getting so excited!

Awesome plan!  How cool is it that you get to have 2 different dresses and 2 events?!  And yes you definitely want to make the first look a private event!

  • 1 year later...

Hi ladies - I posted back in 2011 about my plans to do a first look at my November 2011 wedding (under the name clgriffi7).  I loved that we did the first look because it gave us a solid 2 hours to get pictures before the ceremony (including the family photos) so we had time during the cocktail hour to get a few dramatic twilight shots and then actually attend our cocktail hour (check out the albums in my signature if you would like).  There is no way we could have taken photos at so many locations around the resort without doing a first look.  I came back to this thread today because I just worked a local wedding show with my wedding photographer this past weekend and many of the brides were interested in the first look photos in my album.  I realized I never posted my photos here so I wanted to show you all the way they were displayed in my album:  (this is a double page spread)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
