January 2013 Bride Destination Unknown!

Hey ladies!! My fiance and are signing our papers Dec 31 2012 because we wanted to get married on our anniversary! We will have a ceremony down south some time the first week in January! I am having such a hard time deciding where! We need a resort that allows children, and would prefer a 4 or 5 star.  My biggest concern is that I would like the ceremony to be private. We are considering Huatulco or Mayan Riviera based on travel agents recommendations for that time of year.  We are totally open to other destinations as well!  I have heard of some weddings where there are tons of ppl in their swimsuits watching the wedding! I don't mean to sound snobby but I don't want some pasty man with a beer belly in the background of my photos! ;) I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of somewhere that we could have a more private ceremony? I would love to do it on the beach but I am open to all options! Any help would be great!! Thanks so much! :)

Welcome!

That was my biggest fear in choosing a destionation as well, I didn't want to have all these people watching, nor being in all my pictures.  I have heard and seen some pictures from weddings on the beach in the carribean that have like 50 people staring and watching the wedding ceremony.  Thats why we ended up choosing the Gran Bahia Principe in Jamaica.  It has a gazebo on the ocean, which just has a little path leading to it, therefore no men in speedos and women wearing bikinis in our wedding photos.  I also have been at a wedding at the Grand Palladium in the Mayan Riviera and it was pretty private.  They did get the occasional sunbather and person watching but not as bad as it could have been.  It took me many hours of research to finally narrow down the resort we will get married at.  Good luck!

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!!  I am going to send you a link to a variety of places and resorts in the Mayan Riviera that i have photographed.  It should give you a good idea of what is in your background and how private the surroundings are.   Some resorts are very quiet and the area to get married is quite secluded, others are right in the center of the beach with lots of lookers, those are less common.

I hope this helps,

Congratulations and welcome to the forums! All I can say is that its our job as professional photographers to clean up your background for your wedding pictures. Granted... that can not always be done when the ceremony takes place smack dab in the middle of a public beach... but it can be drastically reduced.

Here is a sample that take place at The Royal Playa del Carmen and the couple choose the main public beach that has beach goes walking by constantly. Its a challenge... but can be done!

Best of luck with all your plans. Please email me if you have any questions about the resorts.

Yes, unless your resort is somewhere away from everyone, you'll get a lot of people passing through.  It's ok when they have swimsuits, because in some places(eg. Dominican) there are  always a bunch of old ladies with no tops just standing there and watching the ceremony.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
