For the key holders, you did just regular sized business cards then?

Those ladies that did labels or stickers, did you just put in your own photos or monogram?

So I saw a post from abother girl on another thread.. and i am going to post it on here cause for all of us Jamaica brides.. i am very curious.. and maybe someone on here will know???

Is it true that if you take a lot of items to Jamaica you will be taxed through customs? How did you handle this issue?

I plan to take quite a few things (candles, linen, party favors OOT bags etc)...I am glad that I am aware that there is a possibility of being taxed

so I can prepare early.

Does anyone know if this is indeed the case?? if so i need to stop shopping for my OOT bags.. like YESTERDAY lol

Hey luvmoo! I did postcards for my wedding from Vistaprint with the same template you used! We had our friends and family fill them out with wishes/advice for the bride and groom. Now I have them in a frame as a GREAT memory from our big day!

At the top as you can see we wrote, "Memories and Words of Wisdom for the Bride & Groom!" and on the bottom of the postcard it said, "Please share your wisdom with the new husband and wife to help them begin their new life!"

I like the idea of posting more Vistaprint stuff...I have a TON of things coming...but would love more inspiration as well!  I guess it does make sense to start another thread maybe?  Although I'm fine too with having it in here.  Luvmoo...I'm about to look for your new thread!

Re: couponing...thanks Tori...it was a pretty successful weekend.  The fact of the matter is though that I couldn't/wouldn't be doing it if I didn't have my mom and sister "mentoring" me...passing coupons along...linking coupons with in-store specials, etc.  I just don't have the time to research like they do.  They've even tipped me off to the "girl" I need to look for at London Drugs when I check out...it's quite the process!

Tori, did you ever answer the question a while back about what you're doing with the Michael's sewing kits?  Are you taking the plastic off and closing them, or putting them in the bags "as is"?

They look great! I just put my order into vista print yesterday! I just have one question for you...because I did the same thing....I noticed in your badge holder card you have the word "sauced" on other peoples it says "soused"..when I put my first..yes, first order in I had "sauced" but then I saw other peoples and it said "soused" I then put in a second order just for the cards because I thought I spelt the word wrong....ugh...which one is right?  "sauced" or "Soused"....I never heard this saying before so I really have no idea..lol

Luvmoo,

We may have an issue on our hands with our "pharmaceuticals" http://www.jacustoms.gov.jm/home_template.php?page=restricted&group_id=1  Pharmaceuticals are restricted from entering Jamaica (I am assuming unless its like one advil for personal use) without a PHD certificate and a Permit.  If we have a few entering bulk then they may not allow us to bring them in (I fear).  I am unsure, I may call them and ask, or I may plead ignorance and see if that issue crosses me when I pass through customs.

In reguards to your other question,  When you click on passangers under the jamaican customs website, it reads this

  • Instruments and tools to be used for the purpose of their profession, trade, occupation or employment, provided that the items have been in the passengers†possession and bonafide use for a reasonable period;
  • Tobacco and some potable articles including wines and spirits in the baggage or on the person which they might reasonably be expected to carry with them for personal use, in such quantities as the Commissioner may from time to time approve;
  • Used household effects which have been in the passengerâ€s use for a reasonable period of time and are not imported for sale;
  • A passenger who is eighteen (18) years or older and who is the holder of a Jamaican passport or is ordinarily resident in Jamaica is entitled to additional duty concession in respect of other personal or household effects not specified in (1), (2) or (3) above which the proper officer is satisfied are not imported for sale or commercial exchange and do not exceed US$500 in total value. This concession will not be granted to a person who has been permitted duty free importation under this section within the six-month period immediately preceding the date of return to Jamaica.

There was also another section under "duties/taxes" that read this:

Customs User Fee (CUF)
line.gif.jpg

The Customs User Fee is applicable to all imports and is calculated on the CIF value of all goods being imported. The fee also forms part of the personal and household effects of a passenger, if the value of these goods have exceeded US$500.00

....im not sure if this is what you were looking for? Browse that sight and let me know what conclusions you draw, I found the wording a little confusing lol...

OH NOOOOOOO.....this is not good news.

does it have a list or anything as to what we can bring? or not allowed to bring?

I thnk what i will do .... is plead stupid lol i might just put all the pharmacy stuff in one OOT bag and hope that they dont go through it all lol but better safe than sorry im going to call my w/c and see if these are allowed.

Another thing i might do is, call the jamaica board and give them a list of the items im looking at bringing, and explain the situation (PLEAD MY CASE) if i get anything back...i will def keep you girls in contact to what i find.

But i totally agree Celticgirl...could the wording be anymore confusing in content????

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
