We still haven't finalized our details yet...but I know we will be using "Heaven" by Bryan Adams for our first dance (we used to love dancing to the DJ Sammy version when we first met)

I'm actually dreading the Father/Daughter dance as my Dad passed away 4.5 years ago and it's going to be very hard making it through this day without him. :(

However, I think I may use this opportunity to pay a small tribute to him. I was thinking that when it's time for this dance I would call all of his friends who are attending up to the dance floor (his best friend and several of my parents close friends will be there). Then after making a little speech I'd have the DJ crank up 'Before He Cheats' by Carrie Underwood. My Dad liked this song and I think it's some good fatherly advice for the FI haha! I would do this as the lead in to the 'dance' portion of the evening.

I've only told the FI this idea, so I'd love to hear what you ladies think?!

Hye Ladies,

Just finished my Guest Book - Photobook a few days ago that I did with PhotobookCanada.com.  Got a smokin deal for a 12x12 image wrapped book bc they have 30% off right now with free shipping.  It should be here any day now....can't wait to see how it turned out....if you are planning on doing one of these get on it right now before the end of August to take advantage of this deal.

It was super easy to do and I had a lot of fun doing it.  The only downfall......it probably took my 12 hours to complete it.  So a lot of hours but it will be totally worth it.  Now not only do I have a full colour guest book that all of my guests will enjoy looking at and filling out for us but it can also double as a coffee table book!

Will post some pics of it when it gets here.....

My best friend got married in July and her dad passed away when she was 9, she too was somewhat dreading that portion of the day and they were just going to bypass the motherson/father daughter dance to make things easier.  Her FI planned an AMAZING surprise that had about the whole room in tears.  He made a speech (very out of character for him) about her dad and how he wishes he would have had the opportunity to meet him but he knows how much he loved his girls (she has one sister) and gave a nod to her dad.  He then invited her and her mom to share a first dance and he and her family and his each took a rose and encircled them.  At the end of the dance she went around and took a rose from each person, creating a bouquet sent to her from her dad.  It also symbolized the joining of two families and the support behind her.

I hope my description makes sense and gives it justice, it was such a nice idea!

So, that being said I love your idea of having a "tribute" to your dad and think you plan is the perfect way to do it!

OMG... what a sweet story, that brought tears to my eyes.  That was really nice of her husband to plan!

I thought it was so great, the bridal party was in complete shock.  He is a great guy and they are very much in love but that was totally out of character (at least of what I know of him over the last 5 years) so I was just so touched.  When he made his speech he started to choke up and I have NEVER seen him upset!

Hi Camy,

I can relate to what you are saying. My mom passed away almost 4 years ago and although I will still get to do the Father/Daughter dance, planning my wedding and doing all the stuff you would normally do with your mom without her has been extremely tough. I get excited about wedding stuff then turn around and shed a few tears...lol...Good thing my Fiance understands, he lost his dad 16 years ago.

So regarding tributes, I thought I would share with you our ideas. I think Tori's friend's idea is very touching. I also had a friend recently get married and she had lost both of her parents. What they did is they had photos in nice frames on a table in front at the ceremony and reception, with a candle lit in front of each(votive). Then when it was time for a toast, they put a glass of champagne by each photo. We are planning on doing the photo idea at our ceremony. I have also seen others put a nice poem in a frame by the photos.

For speeches, I think we are both going to say a word of how his dad and my mom would have loved each of us...more of a funny tribute...with a few tears I am sure. I.e. My mom would have loved him as he is a clean freak like her.....

I am also going to carry a photo of my mom in a small frame tied to my bouquet...so she is with me:)

Anyhow, there are a few ideas. Did your dad like any funny or crazy songs? If you are comfortable playing one, you could all get up and dance like crazy in honour of him!!
