I had the same idea, fake flowers, water and $2 vases from Dollarama but bringing all that glass freaked me out. I would have needed a back up plan if even a few of them broke, and the amount of space they take up = extra luggage costs. It might be a little late if you have bought the vases from Dollarama but I contacted my resort coordinator with a picture of the 3 different sized cylinder vases I want, and they said it would be $9 Canadian for all 3 and I will only be putting a group of 3 on each table. I will be bringing down my floating candles and fake flowers for them to include. So I figure the $9 is worth the stress of not bringing glass in my suitcase. Worth a try at your resorts too!

SJay, your advice was the best! I called the Davids Bridal store today, and confirmed that they have the 2 main dresses that I really liked online in the store, so I'm hoping that in the 2 weeks time before I go that nobody buys it. The girl on the phone said anything could happen, but they should always have the dress there of a different size that I could try on for the shape and all. I'm so relieved right now. THANK YOU!

Glad to hear! And you're welcome - hope you get to try on your size!

it was actually my wedding planner who told me to go that route. Apparently things in JA are sometimes up to 4x the price what we pay here. And the quote for my centrepieces was $50+ each. I need twelve of them so for me it's not an option. I'm going to have to throw it all in a hard shell suitcase with lots of bubble wrap etc. The good thing is that I'm going to bring it in Dec and wedding isn't until May. So if I open my suitcase and its full of shards of glass I"ll let you ladies know to just pay the $50 for ea centrepiece. hahaha. It's only costing me an extra $40 to bring another suitcase so thats also good,. Vases, lanterns, LED lights and luminaries and candles are all coming down at xmas.

LOL @ lug poles....well in my mind, i'm still trying to figure out a way but i suppose it doesn't make much sense.

My wedding is at a villa style place so I have to bring everything in. All down to the chairs I want, as I didn't want to use plastic chairs with a white cover on them. I want chiavari chairs. Picky, I know.

I'm going to source some hardware stores there and try to convince the villa to purchase the poles as it will be good for them in future too.

Oh boy! That sounds like a large task. Good luck with that!

Just wondering, any ideas on wedding insurance? I was reading on another thread that people are purchasing the wedding insurance which covers for anything regarding the wedding itself (ie. DJ florist etc) on top of their travel insurance. Any Canadian brides out there who have purchased a wedding insurance, and with whom?

Wow, thats a great price! My inspiration was similar to yours and at our resort it was going to be $20 per vase so for the three vases per table I wanted I just couldn't fathom spending that much for a centrepiece.

Here is what we are doing instead:

http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/10-centerpiece  we have three small, tall-ish square vases from Ikea as our vases and purple cellophane along with purple LED lights. I have also made DIY organza flowers to put on the top of the vase, I have no pics of my flowers yet but this is the tutorial I used http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2010/02/fabric-flowers-boutonnieres-more/

We leave in 11 days and are planning on carrying on all our vases (spread out between members in our group if we need to for weight...I just bought my roll of bubble wrap and am about to get wrapping! :o

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
