How far out did this happen to you? Did they end up making changes only once?

I'm now paranoid that I'll get this straightened out, only to have them change it again....ugh!

We booked in August of 2011 and found out in October. We were fortunate because it only affected our Calgary flights. We surrended all of reserved Calgary flights and routed everyone through edmonton. It sucked because we had to give up Calgary seats and our Edmononton flights was completely booked, all we had were our reserved seats.  We had to move our wedding date from May 11 to May 10th, luckily our resort was accommodating with the date change. Air Transat didn't make any further changes to our schedule after this, so hopefully you're in the clear.

I hope everything works out for you, I know how stressfull it can be!

We just passed our deadline to put a deposit down for our group with Air Transat. Our wedding is Nov 2012 and we JUST got our flight dates and times now for November as flight schedules were not released yet. Just curious how did you guys get your schedules so early?

I am not sure if you are using a travel agent or not but we are using one who is a personal friend and she has warned us to be very aware that it is entirely possible that flights can and do change at any time. My FI's sister booked her wedding with another company (Thomas Cook or something, I am not entirely sure) and her flights were changed the week before her wedding resulting in the changes shortening her trip by almost an entire day. It definitely stinks but apparently it is a common occurrence!

I would say to hope that the flights don't change again (as we are hoping that as well) but my travel agent has made it quite clear that this is often the case so we are prepared so we aren't too alarmed if she has news about flights changing....for this reason we put our wedding day in the middle of the trip, so in the case that the flights are changed either way we won't be impacted too much.

Happy Planning!

I just wanted to give everyone a head's up about something that has just given me a mini-meltdown. It appears Transat has now posted AND changed their 2013 flight schedules for some gateways. I would suggest if you have a 2013 wedding and are booked through Transat that you contact your TA to check to see if this impacts your schedules at all.

For me - we had booked with the impression that everyone was leaving Saturday April 6, to Saturday April 13. This included people going from Ottawa (36ppl), Calgary (7ppl) and Edmonton (4ppl). Well...the "new" schedule came out, and they moved Edmonton's flights to the 5-12, and Calgary's to the 3-10. The wedding is on the 11th, so this means the Calgary schedule misses it alltogether, and the Edmonton one means people have to travel the day after the wedding............so I'm waiting to talk to my TA today to figure out this mess and see what we can do. Changing the wedding date doesn't seem to be much of an option, since the hotel is pretty booked up and I've already ordered things with the date.

Don't want to alarm anyone, but want to make sure you find this out ASAP if it also impacts your wedding - since my TA and I only found out because we specifically asked for the flight schedules as I had come across some posted on expedia.

I'm really not sure how we got them so early - but if you check sites like expedia, etc. the flights are posted for April 2013 right now - so I'm assuming that's why my TA was able to obtain them as well. I noticed them available on those sites, so had my TA look in to see if the flight times were out for Transat, and apparently they were.

I can totally live with the flights changing within a 24 hour period, or even from one day to the next.......but for our Calgary flights to change by 3 entire days is nuts to me......there is no way anyone could possibly plan a wedding that way. This change means that they miss the wedding entirely, and I don't have a lot of flexibility on the wedding date since MY gateway is Ottawa and hasn't changed....we have to be in Dominican 3 bus. days prior to the wedding - so our date is actually the first date we could legally do it.........I honestly have no idea how we are going to make it work....so frustrating.

I dunno what to do. Fingers crossed theren't aren't any more major changes (as I said...flight times I can handle.....even a one day difference.....but a 3 days is nuts to me) and everything can work out :)

Thanks! that does help. We have decided on Jamaica and we're both really excited about it. I think we're going to go with Secrets (we really like the wedding package they have) We are also considering the option of Sunset Beach for some of our guest. Our guests that are on a budget are my FIL and as of now they dont want anything to do with us and our wedding. But since we do have 2 years till it happens I was trying to think positive about this situation changing, although not very likely it will change. But thank you!

ugh I bet that is so frustrating! Perhaps it would be worth checking into the fine print if you haven't already because AT had something in the fine print for us that had to do with if flights changed we could get our deposits back...I don't know the exact condition and how it worked as we haven't needed to use it but perhaps it could help so that your people wouldn't miss the wedding entirely. FI's sister made a bit of a stink with their company after they made the big changes to their flights on such short notice and they actually ended up helping them out and gave a credit for the people who were negatively affected so they could fly with another provider on another day.

I completely understand the gateway thing as well as we have people flying out of Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton and we are praying that each gateway's times don't change too drastically because people will be pretty upset!

Fingers crossed there aren't anymore major changes for your group or AT does something to help you guys out!! :)

Hi Kristin Ri,

I think it's wonderful that you have decided on Jamaica. I agree with the previous poster that you need to have the wedding that will make you happy. We planned our Jamaican wedding a year and a half out. From the beginning, my fiance was always worried that most of his side would not come. And, in the end he invited about 80 people and 22 people are coming. I invited about the same number of people. Although 46 people are coming, we are one month away and as of now my parents and my younger siblings are not coming.

There are people coming that I didn't think would make it, and there are people who aren't coming that I thought wouldn't miss it for the world. You AND your fiance have to be 100% ok with that!

For me it has been stressful not to have my parents enthusiasm and support, and it's changed my relationship with my parents, but having the wedding my immediate family would have wanted would only have made me miserable. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing!

Hopefully, my experience is helpful in some way as you embark upon your planning. I wish you strength, peace of mind, and above all a beautiful and happy wedding/marriage!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
