Honestly, I don't think the men would use them at all.

Have you thought about putting them in a basket at the beginning of the isle? That way anyone that wants one can grab one.

Is anyone else doing fans?  Do you think the men will use these or more likely to use the more "neutral' palm hand fans?

I agree, I don't think most of the men would use them. I like the idea of a nice basket with a sign....I'm thinking of doing something similar with our parasols. We only got 6 for my bridesmaids for pictures, but I think I'll set them out at the ceremony in case some ppl want to use them for sun cover.

Tori, these are FANTASTIC! love them!! if i had more time and didnt have my own already i would definitely invest in these. How about having a really nice basket (40% off at Michaels right now) with a sign attached and then people can help themselves....good chance the men wont and their companions (being the females) will fan them down LOL i dont think the men would use the palm fans either so i dont see why you should bother since these are so great!!! just an idea

I really wanted fans for our guests during our ceremony.  It will be 3PM and I am sure HOT so I didn't want people to die.  I really liked the sandalwood or palm fans but a few months back when I was helping out a friend of my moms she had one of these "collapsable purse fans"  I mentioned what a great idea it was as they collapse to palm size and can be tucked in your purse or bag.  She is a supplier of them and mentioned she may have some and that was the end of that.

Well today, to my surprise I received a fedEX box with 45 of these hand fans in them in black & white paisley and a green and white flourish (our colour).  I think they are really neat but 45 is not enough for all our guests and when I looked online they are $6 a piece so I don't know if I can afford to buy more....

So here are my questions for you:

Do you think EVERYONE at the ceremony should get one (we were going to put them on the chairs), I think it would be hard to control who does and doesn't get them but I was thinking we could stick them in the OOTs instead and get people to bring them to the ceremony....

Do you think we should just suck it up and try and buy some extras to top up our numbers?

Should I try selling these and buying the palm or sandalwood fans so at least everything is the same?

Here is a picture of the two styles and then the size of them folded up.  I am so appreciative that she did this for me and cant get over how generous of her it was but at the time we had like 40 people booked and now we have over 60!

I think the post was in July some time if that helps. If you know which thread it was or who it was can you let me know?

Ohh LOVE these!!!!

We will be having raffia fans, and putting them on the chairs.. i don't know that the men will use them as much as the women will, however it is hard to regulate who would and would not get one.. We are also short by about 10 fans, but i will be buying more and making sure there is enough for every single person.. that way they can have the choice as to whether or not they want one...

the basket idea is awesome, however then they may not feel like it is theirs to keep... and they would not take one... or else feel obligated to put them back afterwards...

You could also maybe ask the lady that gave them to you, if you could order more and just ask how much they would cost etc.. and see if she could get you a discount on the remainder you need to buy :)

Can I just tell you, this is why I LOVE you ladies and why I come to my fellow Canadian brides for EVERYTHING!

There just seems to be so much going on lately that I dont even CARE about wedding stuff anymore but when these showed up as a surprise I STRESSED obviously for no reason.  I know I can always count on you guys to guide me back to reason!

My mom suggested the basket Idea as well and I wasn't sure it would work because people may not know what they are but the SIGN (DUH?! how did I not think of this) makes total sense!  Now to determine some fun wording!!!

I love the rafia fans Jen, did you see oriental trading has them $10 for 12 - She gave me everything she had so it's not an option to order more but I think I am just going to go with the 45 and count on the fact that at least 10 of our men wont take a fan!

I agree with Tori, when you feel stressed about all the planning and diying it is great to know that you ladies are there for support and advice!

Okay, so here is what I need your help on. I am starting to stress now thinking I didn't do enough for the wedding and ATR planning this summer and now back at work I am freaking out as I look at the calendar!

Flowers- I looked at the flower pdfs the resort sent me and the choices are not that great...I am still wanting a real bouquet for me...may be pretty basic. But I am now wanting to get real touch or nice silk flowers for me and my bridesmaids(3). I know it is hard to get them shipped to Canada with certain companies and I know given the time I have left, most of the shipping dates are gone.

I have been looking at Bloom bridal.com and Wedideas. Since you Canadian girls always have great advice, I am asking you what you would do? Have any of you used these companies?

They have some ready made bouquets but I think I want to do some changes to those. My wedding is Jan. 4th so I need to act on this now.

The other option is, getting silk flowers and getting my sister who had a flower shop to help me put them together....It is hard to get silks that are nice enough without have a flower shop license to go to the wholesalers. Michael's flowers right now are pretty picked out due to their big sale.

Advice, ideas???

Thanks!!!

I opted for real flowers but only because I found a company in Punta Cana that would do all my decor and flowers for a very reasonable price (especially when compared to what the resort charges). However, if you are looking for silk flowers...maybe try looking up a local silk flower shop near you? I'm not sure where you live, but in Markham/Toronto I know there are several Chinese stores around that carry them. I was in Pacific Mall a few months ago and there are stores that will make custom silk arrangements so you can see them before you buy (vs. online). I don't think many of these stores have web sites or advertise...but maybe check out your local Chinatown (you can sometimes find cheap parasols here too!).

I personally think Michael's selection has gone downhill over the past few years so I ended up getting some for my hair down in the US at Hobby Lobby which has an awesome selection.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
