Larger Guest Count?

Aloha Bride

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm a new Bride-2-Be planning a Maui wedding in October 2012. I have a somewhat larger guest count for a destination wedding.... like 75-85 people. I got a couple quotes from the hotels but all of the packages seemed to be a little too over the top for our style. I love the idea of Hawaiian BBQ for the food, doing our own center pieces, and I have heard great reviews about costco doing the flowers... anyone have a similar guest count and where is your venue? Also, what can I expect to pay?

Hi Aloha Bride!!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!  I am also getting married in Maui and I have a relatively large guest count for a destination wedding (50-60 people.)  I agree with you about hotel packages.  I was getting quoted a lot of money at different resorts like the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea.  What we ended up doing is buying out the Mala Restaurant at the Marriott Wailea.  The buyout itself is $10,000 plus tax but that money goes towards cocktail hour, dinner, open bar, etc.  Plus you have the whole restaurant to yourself and you have a gorgeous view with a large lanai, dance floor, private buddha room that you could use for photo booth, lounge area, etc.  You should check it out.  The food is also really good and if you do a tasting with them, they really treat you like royalty :)

Hi girls,

I'm also planning my wedding on Maui for July 2012.  We are thinking that our guest count will be about 40-50.  I've been looking into the Makena Golf Resort or Gannons for our ceremony/reception.  I've actually never been to Hawaii and won't be able to go till my wedding date...ouch.  So I'm interested if either of you have been to these places?  I'm not sure yet what the costs will be. Larisa that place sounds really nice at the Mala.

Hi Ruthie,

I've been to Maui a few times but I haven't actually been to Makena Golf Resort or Gannon's.  However, I did look into both of them when I was looking at locations and I saved some of my notes.  So here is what I can tell you based on what my coordinator told me back in February:

Wailea golf Club & Gannon's Restaurant:

-Rental is available for wedding day only.

-Cost:

Upper or lower wedding knoll: $250 and up

Molokini lookout: $850 and up

Reception Venues @ Gannon's starting at $850

Setting: Golf Club, country club setting with expansive views of south maui and surrounding islands.

Capacity: Up to 75 (lower lawn) and up to 200 (restaurant)

A few other places that we were looking at and may be worth checking out are:

Ka'anapali Coffee Estate

Simply Makena Estate

Kukahiko Estate

Olawalu Estate

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center

King Kamehameha Golf club

Kahana Estate

Kula Lavender Farm

Hope this helps :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
