I'm trying a few DIY projects for our cruise wedding. The first were the center pieces I fell in love with on Martha Stewart's wedding site.

What can I do to make mine look as stylish as the ones shown on the site?

Any advise you can offer would be great.

I think yours look great! Hers are obviously different flowers, and they are grouped closer together, which gives it more of a "bouquet" feel.

What do yours look like lit up? I wonder if Martha's are vellum so the light shows through nicely?

My second project were my Guest Favors or Swag bags. Our guests are all non sailing and most are from out of town.

I'm thinking of including the following in the bags.

Mini Bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum (men) or Parrot Bay (women)

Mini toy "chest" stuffed with personalized Chocolate gold coins

Hand Sanitizer

Lifesavers

Program Fans

The bags are jute and I've stenciled an anchor onto it. But what else can I do to make it a little more stylish and less "home school project?"

Thanks!!!

Yes, I changed the flowers to match the colors of our wedding party.  Hmmm you're right. I will group them closer together so they aren't so spread out and give more of that bouquet feel.

Our cruise line won't allow candles, but I'm thinking maybe I should try the battery operated type of tea lights?

Thanks  I will try vellum, too.

Maybe I should try a square vase too?

I saw the post below about grouping the flowers together, great idea, wondering what program you are using to create these?  If you are using powerpoint you can select a background which will give you the faded yellow background she is using...  then insert the flowers on top of the background, use a nice frosted vellum and they will light up and look gorgeous!

great job!

Where are you getting married?  Add something "local" to the bags...  A common add in is a little wedding hangover kit - advil, peopto, sunscreen, chapstick, etc...  You are well on your way!

Thanks. I was using Corel Draw. I will adjust the background color, group the flowers together and try a frosted vellum.

Thanks ladies

We are getting married in Baltimore on a cruise ship, on embarkation day. I could add something local to the bags, like crab seasoning packets or something like that.

Hmmm, thanks. Great idea.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
