Newbie here, got married at the Mayan in May

Recommended Posts

amy- menu was surf and turf with puff pastry shrimp as an appetizer. i also had a chocolate fountain with all kinds of fruits, cookies, marshmellows, etc. and a wedding cake of course. During the cocktail hour we had sushi and taquitos with guacomole served (and something else I cant remember now). At the last minute I cancelled the salad course because I thought it would take too long and be too much food. Im glad I did because by the time dinner was over people were jumping out of their seats and really wanted to get the party started.

Christine - you are the answer to my prayers, lol. wink.gif

I've been dying waiting for someone on here to get married at the Mayan so I'm SOOO glad you decided to join us!!!!

Where did you get your cake from? Marco said they only include a small "symbolic" cake in the package...

Also, how many people did you have and where did you guys stay? We plan on staying at the Westin.

Oh man I'm so excited - I can't WAIT to see your pictures!!! smile159.gif

Jaime Lynne- I'm sorry I have no idea where the cake was from, my planner, Priscilla got it. I had 60 people and we mostly stayed at the Marriott. I like the Westin a lot but if people stay there, you have to consider that they will most likely see the ceremony/reception site prior to the wedding. People get bored very easily so I didn't want this to happen. I have mixed feelings about the Marriott. I loved it for my guests to stay there because I wanted a big hotel with a resort feel and also it has excellent service. I wasnt crazy about the decor. I personally like more modern decor, but in the end the Marriott was a great choice for the group as a whole. The price was also great!

Lorilou- We got my husband's suit in downtown LA at a tailor. But my father and brother-in-law found great white linen suits at Loehmann's in LA. My dad and brother unfortunately couldnt find white linen suits in DC. Especially because I decided 6 weeks before the wedding I wanted an all-white wedding! Linen is the way to go, especially if you are getting married in the heat of May. After the ceremong my husband and I changed. In the fireworks pic, my husband took of his jacket and changed into a Hugo Boss white linen shirt which was great in the heat.

Amy-my sig drink was mojitos, they were great. I also wanted blue margaritas!!! A blue drink would be awesome, to match the bar and pillars. My husband didn't like the idea because we served margaritas for the two parties we had on the nights prior to the wedding.

Hey Christine, glad to have you here also!!! I have appt with Hector from Prisar next sunday, did you worked with him aswell or just with Priscilla? Any suggestions about Prisar Vallarta.... did you always had the idea of the Mayan , how did you decided? I am between Mayan, Westin and a Private Villa...

Have you posted your pictures already from the wedding/ceremony? I am behind on the threads... sorry if you already did.

Mora- Priscilla was the main person I spoke with, but I defintely worked with Hector as well, he is great too. They are married, so they are a great team. I chose the Mayan because Priscilla really impressed upon me that it was exactly what I was looking for. When I got to PV and saw the Mayan I knew she was right. I have recommended the Mayan to so many girls now. They and myself have Priscilla to thank for it. As far as I know no one else has gotten married at the Mayan yet on the forums, so I think I was the first? I wouldn't have ever heard about the Mayan if it werent for Priscilla, and I found her on a mexican wedding site equivalent to theknot.com.

The Westin is really beautiful too but the Westin is not appropriate for a small wedding like mine. I went to a gorgeous wedding that Prisar did at the Westin on the patio, but there were about 150 people there and the space seemed awfully big for that amount of people. The Westin's spaces are better for large weddings. They dont have any intimate spaces. The Mayan can accomodate both small and large weddings. I havent posted any pics/video yet. I used the same company for photography and videography and the pics are finished but my husband and I just finished choosing our wedding video songs so we should be getting it all together shortly.

JaimeLynne- I chose to use an outside WC for several reasons. First, I have seen weddings that Marco did by himself and I was not very impressed. Secondly, Priscilla ended up planning not just my wedding but two welcome parties and a brunch, which were all great. In the end she also saved me an unbelieveable amount of money. She took care of details like champagne being delivered to my bridal suite, getting my hair extensions done at a great place, driving me all over to appointments when neccessary, getting me special gifts for my guests, and being the contact go-to person for my guests in Vallarta when they needed something. She would have done the welcome bags too if I didnt want to do them myself, and Im leaving out a ton of other details I cant even think of or list them all now. An in-house planner wont do those things for you. Priscilla and Hector even recommended the cool after hours clubs to our group so we didnt end up at the cheesy tourist PV nightlife places. They really formed our wedding experience into something spectacular. I would definitely hire them again!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
