Clean your engagement ring

Recommended Posts

Here's one more thing to add toy our to-do list that no one ever mentioned to me - have your engagement ring professionally cleaned right before the wedding.  Everyone will be looking at you and your hands and the photographer will be getting close up photos so you want it to look its best.  I normally do a home cleaning every month or so and that works well to keep the diamond shiny but the band was still looking worn out.  Between all the hand washing and banging against metal door handles or rails, it takes a beating.  I didn't really notice until we bought our wedding bands and it looked like a completely different metals when put next to one another.  So I went to the jeweler and in less than 5 minutes the ring looked brand new (and its free since its the place it was purchased).  Definitely worth it.

I get my ring cleaned at our jeweller about once a month. Definitely makes gives it that extra sparkle! Our jeweller suggested that I clean it with Mr. Clean anytime I'm not able to get into him. I tried it (literally submersed my ring in a cup of Mr. Clean for about 10 minutes) then gave it a quick scrub with an old toothbrush and voila! Sparkly sparkly!

The place where my diamond was set said the same thing - they said they themselves use Mr. Clean.  The ring sure was sparkly after she cleaned it for me.  They also offer re-dipping for 5 yrs I think, so I'll have to get that done before the wedding for sure.  We'll just see how much of the sparkle it loses after 4 days of sand and sunscreen. lol

At home, I've been cleaning it with hot water and a bit of baby shampoo, and scrubbing with a soft toothbrush.  I also have an ammonia-based jewelery cleaning solution, but I don't use it often because I'm afraid it will make the white gold wear or fade faster - does anyone know?

I would say it is the same as all jewelry.  I picked up a great all natural 2 part cleaner for the band and diamond at the bridal show here last winter.  It works really well but as the ladies have said a little MR. Clean and an old toothbrush go a LONG way!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
