Sky Lanterns!

Recommended Posts

Now that I am looking at the www.weddinglanterns.com website, they are cheaper if you buy in bulk (which most of us will be).

However, it seems like the www.theskylanterns.com use a biodegradable string instead of the wire.

Do you know what the ones at the weddinglanterns.com are made out of? Also, I see them (weddinglanterns.com) referring to a fuel cell, are these ones allowed on planes?

The Ones at theskylanterns.com use a wax instead of a fuel cell and because of that reason has no problem traveling on planes.

I would like to order from Weddinglanterns.com bc they are cheaper, but..I want to make sure I am getting the same product.

Please let me know if you know! If not, I will be calling them this afternoon (I am at work right now...on a saturday...sad.gif) and fill everyone in.

Thanks again! ( I really hope Secrets allows me to do this...now that I have my hopes up so high!!)

I didn't look at that one but the shipping is a flat rate of 5.99 from New York no matter how many you order. It's only a few dollars less but hey every dollar counts when you're planning a wedding.

Shipping from Michigan to Atlanta, GA costs $12.29, with a ship time of approx ~ two days.

That is with 30 Lanterns being sent.

Perhaps you are referring to a different site?

Hope this helped someone :)

YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT GIRL!!!! Every cent counts!! cheesy.gif

Do you know how they differ from the other ones at www.theskylantern.com in how they are made, or if you can bring the weddinglantern.com ones on the plane? And if they use that fast biodegradable wire or string?

I asked this question up above, didn't know if you knew the answer or not? confused.gif

Thanks for everything Cbandember!

Most of everything I have read up on these states they are biodegradable so I would have to say yes to that question. As for traveling with them I am just packing them into one of my 10 suitcases of wedding stuff. They should be fine on the plane. Its just a flammable patch, nothing combustable so they should travel well.

I LOVE this idea!! I've been doing some research online to find the best price for those like myself who live in NY or anywhere in the US and I found them reasonably priced at www.freeskylanterns.com I got a case of 36 White sky lanterns plus 4 free, which is a total of 40 for $79.97 with taxes and shipping it was a total of $88.96. Shipping was $4.99. They have other options such as 10 lanterns for $29.87 plus 1 free etc... and you can also order the case of colored sky lanterns for the same price. Check it out ladies!!

I used the ones from www.theskylantern.com, and had no issues getting them on the plane.

We released ours right on the beach. You need to make sure nothing is nearby (ie beach palapas) as they do not go right UP, they float for a bit and gravitate up. Hope this helps!

The ones from "theskylantern.com" ARE allowed on planes, biodegradable and are dosed in a fire retardant as to not catch trees and things on fire IF something goes wrong.

Another question, Where are you releasing them? It says you need little to no wind to be able to release them.

It seems like it always windy on a beach? Any brides that have used them in the past, please fill me in on how it worked out, windy or not :) Did you release them in a part of the resort (like near a pool) that is less windy?

This is a great thread! Thank you everyone!! :) :)

Natalie - absolutely gorgeous video!!  I feel so inspired watching it.  I may even use a few of your ideas if that's ok with you!  You look stunning and so in love.  Happiest wishes for your marriage. :)

Krsmith - I think I'm going to make these a definite and totally skip the fireworks.  Would be willing to go in on white ones with you... possibly from theskylantern.com.  Also seeing if Moon Palace allows bonfires on the beach (in case we don't qualify for a free reception).  I wonder how much the kerosene cans cost, etc... I can ask.  (although just sending my just-assigned WC like 100 questions tonight, hahaha!)  P.S.  I think it's funny that I suggested you look at this post, and you'd already beaten me to it!  :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
