New DW Bride!

Hey ladies! My name is Halsey :)

My fiancee and I have been engaged since December, and up until now have been planning a traditional wedding. However, after looking at finances it just makes more sense for us to have a DW. I have no family or friends, so we would be paying completely for his family to attend, and I would much rather have a more intimate ceremony. We will not have any one at our wedding with us, we decided we just want it to be us. Plus, FI has never been out of the country, let alone Pacific Northwest, so I'm excited to take him somewhere tropical!

I'd like some ideas for all-inclusive resorts, preferably in Jamaica. I know about Sandals, but I also have a feeling there are cheaper resorts out there. Any suggestions would great! Also, I don't know what time of year we should go??

Thank you all!

Welcome!

Congrats on your engagement in December, I was also engaged in December!  And congrats on deciding on a destionation wedding!!

We chose Jamaica because it is a truly beautiful country!!  We are getting married at the Gran Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay, Jamaica.  We ultimately chose this resort for a few reasons: They offer a variety of wedding packages, even a free one, they offer lots of variety of restraunts, and the location of the resort is pretty good compared to the air port.  Also, it was the cheapest out of any resort, even though it is 5star.

We chose to get married in early January.  We chose this because its cheaper then February, March and April.  My parents own a RV business so their summer months are busiest so we knew we would have to get married in a winter month.  I graduate in December from University so thought January would be a great time!  Good luck with your decisions!

Congrats on your engagement I got engaged in December also. :)  Picking your resort can be difficult, but you've come to the right place.  Read a lot of the reviews and ask to look at pictures because paradise is how you define it.  Congrats again and happy planning

Sandals is waaaay overpriced. You have to love that they have ongoing promotions claiming to be 65% off when it's still twice what you'd pay to go to a comparable resort. We're going to the Iberostar Rose Hall which is right near the airport in Montego Bag, it's in the mid-price-range. The Gran Bahia and the Riu are both your best bang for your buck resorts when it comes to their wedding packages. Especially if it's just going to be the two of you, it make sense to go for a place where your wedding can be free.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
