Also try googling "dress name and designer" for sale, you may come across it on a kijiji or craigslist type thing in another city but willing to ship to you!!! Worth a try as well!!!!!!   I would love to see the dress you are hoping to wear!!!

This is what I have been doing to see if I could find my $4840 dress for less.  Although I have come across several brides who are willing to sell theirs (it has been too small for me).  However; none of this will discourage me from purchasing the dress that I want my future hubby to see me in!!!

talk it over with FI....and go from there

GORGEOUS dress!!!!!!! I am glad price wise it worked out for you!!!! You will look absolutely stunning in it!!!

Definitely just ordered it today.  Totally the best decision ever.  I sat there and didn't want to take it off the whole time.  It ends up working out because they gave me 10 percent off the dress.  I guess becuase I was the last appt. and couldn't get ahold of my dad for his credit card (he paid for the deposit as part of his allotted amount for the wedding), they decided to let me have the "you buy the first day you get a discount" deal.  Then, if my maids go there to get their dresses (which they are going to), they get 10 percent off and then I get an additional 10 percent.  So, that only puts me at 2900 and my budget was 2000ish!  SOOOOO EXCITED!

So nice to hear such a great story about you are your FIs daughter (your future daughter!) it is so nice that you are able to enjoy this time with her and bond over the wedding, I am sure it will mean the world to her to have been a part of your special day and so included!!!!!!

Bruceg05...that dress is going to look amazing!

Coconair1908...do you have a picture of your dress??? I want to see which one you decided on?

I was supposed to go look at wedding dresses yesterday with my future sil...but ym FI daughter's track meet ran over time and we didnt make it....so the search continues...I am SOOOO enjoying reading everyones post on this thread, keep the dresses, the emotions and the pics coming!! I cant wait til I have that "feeling" and finally find my dress :)

I saw a couple of dresses on Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta...but their budgets are always so much higher than Im willing to spend.  Also, I watched Amsale girls last night with the FI daughter (she'll be 12 soon) and we kept looking at the dresses shaking our heads together like..."$4000...for THAT...why"??? LOL! Fun times with her...cant wait to get her her bridesmaids dress and do some more bonding!

I think leave the sash ivory for sure, but like Bride2012 said that is just my opinion.  I think the dress is stunning, this is similar to what my good friend is looking for so I am going to share it with her!!! I think the chocolate brown would take away from the beautiful lace and everything!!! You only get to be the bride once, embrace the white (or ivory in my case too!!!)

This is my dress....I'm thinking of trading out the ivory sash for a chocolate brown one... thoughts? (my bridesmaid dresses are chocolate brown)

(pardon the other bride to be in the background).  I am sure that choosing a dress without lace and beading really helped to keep the price down - luckily I have simple tastes, so I didn't want those things.  Another way to save money is to find a bridal store in the area that provides a little less service.  Where I live there are 2 stores (45 minutes drives to each, but worth it) that don't require appointments and don't give you a personal assistant.  The dress shopping expereince may not be as nice, but the price ends up being cheaper.  And if you can manage to go on a day during the week there is no one else there so you end up getting the personal attention anyway.

As for a TTD - I had initially wanted a second dress because what girl doesn't want a second wedding dress?  Then I decided that the pictures would be much more meaningful if it was THE wedding dress instead of another pretty white dress.  Yeah - I might not be able to swim well, but my fiance has been warned that it is his job to not let me drown.  One thing I read from a bride previously married at my resort is that she had her dress dry cleaned after her TTD but while still at the resort so she didnt' have to bring a wet dress home.  She said it cost $85 - which is cheaper than I could get it done at home.

Thank you everyone.  I am so in love with it.  I'm loving all the others too :)  I wasn't able to pull off those styles.  Now to find a training and diet routine...

I agree with everyone else here, your dress budget should be based on the overall budget of your wedding and or feel.  Personally I had a 2500 budget, FI said I could spend whatever but we are paying for this ourselves and I knew with it being destination and a very small family oriented wedding that I wanted simple but not understated.  Pronovias carries amazing dresses for very reasonable prices! The material is amazing so soft and couture without the pricetag.  I went with chiffon as I wanted it to be cool and flowy in the breeze (hopefully we have one).  I orignally started looking at Nicole Miller dresses - perfect for destination - but honestly was concerned with the silk charmuse and sweating through it (sorry to be gross but it's a fact of life in a tropical climate).  I went straight to the designer in NYC and ended up with Paola, it was 1500 but got 10% off.  So dress and alterations plus tax total $1950.  I am not wearing a veil, just some orchids in my hair and my shoes well... I fell in love with a pair of Tory Burch slides but having a difficult time justifying them, we'll see what happens there!

Love your choice, I am wearing a Pronovias gown as well!!!!! I would love to see the Tory Burch slides you are considering.  I love love love love love my Tory Burch flats and I have a wedge as well, they are definitely pricey but worth it!!! If you'll wear them again go for it!!! (if you can afford it!)

starfish, I ADORE your dress and the pronovias line, and I'd meant to tell you sooner when you posted on the 'Show Us Your Dress' forum. online it looks like the dress has a looooong train. is that an add-on, or does it come that way? I really want to go try this on (but I already bought my dress... hee ; )

here's a pic of the pronovias gown I tried on and would have purchased if we were doing a formal church ceremony. it was also in the pronovias line called la sposa denia - it's the one pictured in the Martha Stewart Wedding magazines and is absolutely beautiful in person. it was one of those where there were 10 things going on in the room and when I came out and the consultant fluffed the dress, everything stopped. and all that lace for around $1,500 - LOVE pronovias. : )

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
