I was told by my coordinator that we would not need any proof of our marriage for out symbolic ceremony and I just wanted to make sure that was correct. I have read in other FB groups that you need to have proof of your marriage even if it was symbolic. Anyone know? Thanks!

We did the symbolic ceremony and did not need anything to prove our legal marriage.  We were married in Nov 2013.

My husband and I were just married at Sapphire Now on April 25th and it was a symbolic ceremony, they didn't request anything and they even provided a certificate in which we signed as part of the ceremony in front of our guest. Edited by TCM4252015

I know people who got legally married before and others who got married when they returned.. I can't decide which way I want to do it!

I'm trying to decide that also. Did anyone do a small reception back home? Before or after Mexico? I really want to do something for my grandpa, uncle and friends that couldn't make it. this may be a dumb question but what day do you use as your anverisary the day you legally get married or the day of the symbolic ceremony in Mexico?

I'm also having a reception/party when we return for all the people who couldn't make it, but I'm not doing mine like a wedding reception with sit-down dinner or anything, just a party with drinks and dancing and maybe some small finger foods. But I don't know if I should wear my wedding dress again or just get a white cocktail dress! That's a good question about the anniversary - I never thought about that!

We were married 20 days before our wedding in Mexico, about 15 days before we left.  We chose the date because it was the only day that we could both get off work and both our witnesses could also attend.  At the time we lived in two different cities, quite far from both of our families (one reason we wanted a DW in the first place - everyone to get together for a week!).  We were married at City Hall and brought two witnesses that were not coming to the wedding.  We did not exchange rings, but did pick our ceremony and vows from a list that city hall provided.  We saved the ring exchange for the wedding in Mexico.  Afterwards we took our witnesses out to lunch to celebrate our wedding.  We didn't have to do this but I thought it was a nice way to celebrate for us.   We celebrate our anniversary as our DW date.  The only way I would change that is if for some reason we have a baby born on November 21st.  Then we'll change it to the 11th!

There are threads on this website devoted to brides marrying prior to their DW.  Lots of tips!
