Hi Everyone!

I've been on this site a couple of times but this is my first post.  I'm getting married in May 2015.  I thought a destination wedding was suppose to be stress free, but as the months go by I'm realizing there is a lot more planning involved that I anticipated.  I have read some posts which have been extremely informative and helpful.  I hope this website helps me to not feel too overwhelmed.

Congrats to all those engaged and recently married!!  I look forward to reading your tips and reviews!

Thanks,

Meg

Congrats!!! I am pretty new to the site also. I am getting married 2/28/15. I was getting soooo stressed with every detail but have read so many different reviews on here. I think it is truly up to you how stressed you will get. I have read stories of brides who did nothing until they got there and everything was perfect and then those who plan for over a year. When I started planning I had so many questions and this site was great for that also!

Try not to stress too much! Happy planning :)

Just wanted to let you all know that since we are under 60 days out I am getting great response time from Juan Carlos. We were going to wait until we got there to decide on flowers and such, but he actually asked if we wanted to email him pictures of what we want and he will get a quote from the florist for us!

Hey brides! I was wondering if you paid for the wedding in cash or if they can take your credit card at the resort? Kinda worried about carrying that much cash around with me in Mexico...advise?

And what did you and your guests do for money? Exchange at the airport? Just use US dollars the whole trip? Use ATM at resort? How much cash should we have on hand? I know these sound like odd questions but it will be our first time to another country besides Canada :) Thanks!

Anyone have experience decorating the tequila terrace with Christmas lights and/or hanging lanterns (lanterns that don't light up)? Juan Carlos quoted me $400 to do the Christmas lights - says we need to rent 3 poles at $100/each and then a $100 labor fee. I'm not sure it's worth that much to us.

For those of you who are planning evening receptions at the tequila terrace, how do you plan to decorate? Does anyone know what kind of lighting is already there?

For our wedding, they provided spot lights on the Tequila Terrace and we had lighting for the music even though we brought our friend as a DJ. There was enough light to really see and not to much that we were spot lighted. I don't think you really need more lighting as you have the glow from restaurants and the ones they provide for you.

We used a credit card and I think they kind of prefer that. I wouldn't travel with that much money for sure.

For money at the resort you only need tip money and that is at your preference. I would suggest telling guests to bring small bills if you want to tip as they never have money to give you small bills back. We didn't get any pesos and that was fine even going to the same shopping area we used American dollars. I do had some friends that got pesos and they said that was fine for tipping and buying stuff at the biazrre the have a few nights during the week. We just brought our cash we wanted to spend, but they do have an ATM at the resort. Unless you are planning on shopping a lot or going off site you don't need a lot of money, its an all inclusive. We didn't have more then $2000 total in cash and we had tons of extra.

We used our CC.  It was awesome.  It is actually charged in USD, not pesos! :)

Do not use the ATM at the resort - omg what a rip!  You can use USD the entire time (the resort will exchange to pesos for you if you need.  The resort will also exchange Canadian dollars too!!!).  We didn't bring enough cash, which is why I know about the ATM fees.  I think a 50$ withdrawal ended up costing us over 80 canadian.  Yikes.  How many days are you going for?  I found that we usually tipped about 15-25$/day between the two of us, and then we did tip the bartenders/servers at the wedding.  We also bought a few souvineers and had to take a cab from the Now to the resort where we had our honeymoon.  Hope that gives you a good idea.

Prices are crazy for lighting !...We are just using lanterns with candles on the tables and whatever lighting is there. I asked about starfish to line the aisle and they quoted me $20 per starfish...crazy! I will be taking starfish, thank you!

It seems like anything extra you add is really expensive!

Yeah, we decided to forgo the christmas lights at that price. That said, I have found that they're willing to do a lot of decorating for no cost. I'm doing my own centerpieces and they're setting that up for free - and there are a few components to them. They are only charging $1/chair bow. Not bad.

That price for starfish is nuts!! I'd be surprised if they charge you to set them up down the aisle though if you supply them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
