Would you get married at a resort that did not allow you to chose your own vendors?

Recommended Posts

Hello Brides,

I have been contacted by a bride and she is upset because the resort that she had planned on getting married at no longer allows outside vendors.  When she originally contacted the resort and placed the deposit on the resort and wedding date, she was told that it would not be a problem to bring in her own vendors.  Now a few weeks before her wedding, the resort has changed their policies and will no longer allow outside vendors.

Then I have seen that a few other members are having this same issue.

So a question for you current and past brides.  Would you choose to have a wedding at a resort that did not allow outside vendors or you to choose your own vendors?

I know I would not have chosen the resort I did if I was not allowed to choose my own vendors.

Please answer the poll and feel free to add your thoughts in a reply to this post.

Absolutely no. I would not choose a resort if they did not allow us to use our own vendors. If I was that bride you mentioned above, I would object to that change in policy as the old policy should remain applicable to her. Hopefully, her contract specifically included the old policy of using her own vendors.

I would not go with a resort that absolutley did not allow outside vendors. I need to be able to make that choice myself. I have currently booked at a resort that charges for an outside photographer because they have their own, but they were very upfront about the charge and still allow outside photographers. This was an issue for me, but eventually I decided this was still the resort to choose. But I would not choose a resort that said NO to all outside vendors.

When we first started planning our wedding there were some resorts we absolutely loved and would have loved to hold our wedding there, however, we decided against them because they would not allow outside vendors.  For us, it was a major thing for our resort to provide outside vendors and that helped us choose our resort.  We would not choose a resort that didn't allow outside vendors.

I am getting married @ the Moon Palace and their vendor policy kind of sucks, but I am seeing improvements in areas that would definitely concern me.  Photography is the most important to me so my photographer is a guest at my wedding.  While I would love to be able to afford the likes of Del Sol or La Luna, it just was not in the cards for us, but for the brides that want them at least MP allows them to have them.

If they said no outside vendors period, I'd probably have gone a different way because I was not impressed with the resort pics that I had seen previously done by their in house photographers, but since then it appears they have upgraded a bit.

So my answer is maybe because as long as the resort photography inspired me I'd be okay since the rest is just icing.

I would have no problem having to use the resorts vendors.  It's just one less thing I have to worry about or plan.  Most resorts use pretty upscale and upstanding vendors anyway.  I do understand where other brides are coming from.  It's your day and you should be able to choose who you want.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
