Trash the Dress....yes or no???

Recommended Posts

this seems like such an awesome idea. I mean how often do you think any of us brides will be able to wear our dress again? IMO id rather have the creative pics than a little bit of money if i could sell the dress. I just wonder who i would have take the pics. I would want to do trash the dress with my wedding dress in Jamaica b/c of the beautiful scenery. Thank God i bought a different dress for AHR. woot.gifI am so glad i did b/c now this is an option for me!

Something else to consider which was my decision factor is time. I love the idea of a ttd shoot and was all for it, but it was going to take several hours and those are precious hours I wanted to sound with my guests. Our wedding as a long weekend and many of the guests live in different cities than us so don't see them but once or twice a year. Since they spent a lot of money to come all the way to the wedding I didn't want to run off on a photo shoot ( already the day of the wedding i was unavailable). If we were there longer (and I know a lot of destination weddings here are a week or the b&g stay longer than guests) then for sure I would have done it. But I'm happy with my decision to spend the day with friends and family stress free.

In regards to the timing thing, we are doing our TTD at sunrise and the shoot is 1hour - 1.5 hours so not a ton of time.  We will start around 6AM and 7AM I think and will be done before most of our guests are even up (except a few of those EARLY risers).  Our photographer recommended doing this for a few reasons (either sunrise or sunset) 1) no one or a lot fewer people on the beach so feels a lot more private and no "gawkers" 2) don't loose a day with guests and for yourself!

I am really looking forward to our TTD session!!!!

I am!!!! I figured it would be nice as we already would have a "relationship" and be comfortable.  Also her assistant (fiance) who also photographs will be there so we will have 2 photographers for our wedding and our TTD!!!

I am so excited about the TTD session!!!!!

We loved our TTD session, and had so much fun with our photographers! I used my actual dress and it turned out fine. The day of our wedding it probably got trashed more from dragging the train through the sand and across the grass. We started the shoot in the later afternoon when the pool was starting to empty, but it was fun to shock people by jumping in while dressed up! By the time we were finishing our shoot, it started to rain (the only day) and it worked out fabulous.

A couple of weeks after we got home, I turned my dress inside out and washed in on the delicate cycle. It took a couple of tries because it was stained by clay (from the wedding day) and a lot of oxy clean, but it looks great now.

Here's the link to our photographer's blog about the session:

I'd almost be tempted to do another one where I complete trash the dress beyond recognition.

Yeah i hadnt even thought of it until coming to this site lol and well now, its the one thing im so looking forward to!!! the reason i got another dress for the TTD is because im wearing my wedding dress for the AHR then changing half way through to something else lol

We are getting our TTD pics done by the photographer who will be doing our ceremony pics, most destination photographers have packages that include TTD (i know ours did) What resort are ytou getting married at in Jamaica? what date? im getting married there on the 14th of april 2012 at the GPLH

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
