I have been looking through this site searching for more reviews on Jennifer Smith from Marry Me Akumal or Turtle Bay Cafe.  We originally met with Jennifer based on reviews here but are now having reservations and are looking for more insight.

After looking through the reviews a second time, it looks like all of the good reviews are by the same person. I wish we would have realized that before we booked her.

Are there any others out there that could share their experiences?

We originally booked Jennifer because her food was so great but since our original meeting, I don't have much confidence if receiving information or guidance from her.  We're having serious second thoughts and if we're going to change wedding coordinators, we're running out of time to do so.

The main thing is we're lacking guidance. We've been doing almost everything on our own so far.  What should we be expecting from her?  Did we pay her a WC fee only so she can book the officiant and set up the decorations on the day of the event?  Is that really all a WC is supposed to do?  What services have others received from their WCs?  From what I gather, it seems like other coordinators are a lot more involved and helpful.  They've even put together the name cards and helped with party favors, etc.

The hardest part is her lack of communication is really just ruining the wedding experience for me.  Any time I get excited about something or have questions, I have to ask 2 or 3 times and it takes 1-2 weeks for a response.  At that point, I am too frustrated to be excited anymore.  It's like she's robbing me of my wedding experience.

I am just worried if I am this apprehensive now, only one small thing needs to happen on the day of the event and I will blow up.  My expectations are so low and I get aggravated just thinking about needing something from her and not receiving it.  Please let me know what your expectations are of your wedding coordinator --am I asking too much?  Is it worth another trip to Mexico to try another coordinator's food? Also, if you have any experience with Jennifer Smith that you can share, that would help in maybe calming me down or making the final decision to part ways.

    Thanks!!!

We just returned from our destination wedding in Akumal on 8/11/11 and had hired Jennifer Smith to coordinate our wedding. She is unprofessional and employs unprofessional people. She is a smooth talker and knows all the right things to say to land the job, however she falls short of all the things that she promises. We met her in June and hired her because we didn’t want to worry about planning our destination wedding. Our wedding was at Casa Romero, a private villa; we had rented for the week and wanted to enjoy our time there with friends and family. After we paid her $4500 the she suddenly became less responsive and we really didn’t hear anything from her in the weeks preceding the wedding. As a result…

      1. We had to track her down when we arrived in Akumal and didn’t speak with her until after we had been there for 2 days.
      2. She had lost all of the photos and information regarding our requests that we had given her in June.
      3. She was generally unavailable and we spent most of our time dealing with her assistant Natalie who was equally disorganized and unprofessional.
      4. The people that Jennifer hired to press the dress didn’t do it right and had fix it the day of the wedding, they also put more wrinkles in my shirt than when I gave it to them.
      5. The rehearsal was rushed and on the day of the wedding nobody really knew what to do.
      6. The guitarist that Jennifer hired missed notes and was out of tune. He also started singing when my bride was walking down the aisle after we specifically requested an instrumental version.
      7. The videographer that Jennifer Smith hired was barefoot, wore an obnoxious Hawaiian shirt during the ceremony and is in nearly every picture that was taken.
      8. The DJ that Jennifer hired announced my wife as “Angie” twice, her name is Angelica. Also he didn’t play any of the songs that we had requested and the songs that he did play he would stop in the middle and start something completely different.
      9. The decorations that were used were not what we were promised.
      10. The cake looked nothing like what we requested, however, it tasted great.
      11. At the end of the night when we went up to our room…the safe had been ripped off of the wall and we lost $1200 cash, my wallet, all my cards, 4 passports, and some jewelry. My I-phone was also stolen. I’m including this last one due to the fact that her staff was running around inside the house all night and I know that they were in our room. We just have a gut feeling that someone connected to her stole from us.

I hope this didn't come too late.

From a WC, I would expect fast communication, answers, for him/her to do the leg work (via calls, emails etc) in a timely manner, organization and speaking with enthusiasm.

I know it's not a deal breaker, but everytime I open my email to see someone talking with !! like they are excited about MY wedding, I am put at ease. =)

If you are NOT LOVING your WC, I'd request another.  Key people play important roles in the planning of your wedding, if they are not as efficient as you'd like them to be I would find someone else immediately/
